Machine won't turn on - no power!

My machine appears to have an electrical problem, but I'm not familiar with troubleshooting those types of problems. Could be a fuse or power supply? I started to attempt to remove panels in order to look at the electrical components, but it's not as straightforward as I had hoped (of course!). There is only one service center in Colo. and it's 2 hours away. Can anyone give me:

  • help with disassembly
  • suggestions for parts that may be causing the problem
  • info about how to find a good service center

After looking at the other solutions for this machine, I found out how to remove the top cover - this is very helpful! But I'm still not sure what to be looking for, now that I can get into it. I may just have to take it in for service...

The machine seems to be dead. Push button and no response. Just talked to my nephew in Ca who has same machine and he said same thing happened to his. He bought a new one.

Is there a reset button. Seems like no power and just nothere there!

I spoke with a Breville authorized service center yesterday. They said that if there is no power, there are two possible causes: Either a diode on the main circuit board needs to be replaced, or the entire circuit board needs to be replaced. The diode alone will run about $40. They weren't able to give a price on the circuit board, but I imagine it's not cheap.

fixmebob, thanks for your solution! This is surely going to help me out and save some $$$! As I'm not quite that knowledgeable, I'll need to get a multimeter and learn how to correctly use it, but I'm guessing that knowledge will help in many areas - thanks!

I had the same problem.  I found the Zener Diode to have shorted, replaced it and all is well again.  Thank you very much for your solution.

Breville has a lot of nerve selling this piece of **** for $400, only to have this BS problem occur!! If it wasn't a wedding gift and I actually paid for it, I'd raise some hell onto them.
I appreciate the answer to the problem and am wondering, I just bought a zener diode, except it is a 5.1V. Is that going to be a problem if I install it or do I need exactly the 0.46V? I realize this is a stupid question, but when it comes to electrical, I'm stupid.

Where did you guys get your 0.46v Zener Diode? I tried Radio Shack and their smallest was .51v. I've also been casting about on line and haven't had any luck.

Doesn't turn on when pressing the power button. I'll try the suggested solution (replace zener diode) mentioned.

With the machine facing you, the circuit board is mounted on the left panel. Simply unscrew the grey plastic and you will see it inside a clear case.
The two grey conical inserts are recessed into the machine (next to where water drips out into the coffee), one on each side. Just use a long philip head screwdriver to unscrew them until they drop down.
They hold the top lid in place. Now push the top lid towards you,
pretty easy. Also take out the water tank in the back (the one swing out) to make room to access the circuit board. With the machine back facing you, open the water tank, use your finger to pull the plastic tap. One side of the tank will just drop, and just jiggle the tank out.

Remove the circuit board case, pull out all the wires with a piler,
they are sort of tight, but you can pull them out carefully. Label them so you won't mix them up.

With the circuit board out, I probed around with a multimeter. I found ZD6, a zener diode, part # 1N4749A didn't give me a 0.46V reading. (there is another zener diode with the same part # that gives 0.46V (ZD1). ZD6 is next to two blue electrolytic capacitors. Unsolder ZD6 from underneath and replace it.
It is like 5 cents, definitely not freaking $40.

Same problem here. Machine still looks brand new. Absolutely no nicks in the hose. Electric power is just fine. I hear the motor, then when I squeeze the trigger, I get a weak dribble of water for about 5 seconds, then the motor is quiet for a while. This sound familiar to you? I just posted my similar problem. If you hear anything useful, please forward it to me : Ron

My Juki HZL-E80 won't turn on

no, the light bulb won't cause the machine not to work, check the
power cord to see if it's plugged into the machine correctly, if it is
then the machine needs to be checked to see if it's the power
cord or the on off switch or the machine it's self

Washing Machine Intuitive Eco model number IW811 won't power on?

Possible Cause Solution The power switch is not turned on at the wall. Unplug the machine from the wall. Wait 60 seconds, plug back in and turn the power back on again. The household power supply is at fault. Try plugging another electrical appliance into the power slot.

Our kenmore elite quiet pack 2 front load washer appears to have no power at all. No lights, no codes, nothing. Worked as expect just 2 days prior. No brakers have been tripped on the electric panel...

Always start with the simplest thing, verify that the outlet is good before troubleshooting the machine. I cannot tell you how often the home electrical is the problem not the machine.

Grindmaster pic 2 Hot drink machine is blowing fuse when power turned on. All electrical components appear to be fine.

I have had the same problem with this machine, luckily I had another unit that I could swap out parts for troubleshooting. In my case, one of the dump valves coming off the tank had failed, this ended up causing the control board to fail as well. The dump valve wasn't too expensive, around 70$ as I recall, but the control board was over 300$. Pricey, but considering the machine itself retails for over 1900$, cheaper than a new one. Hope it works out.

Wont turn on and shows no lights acts like not plugged in

Hello tkeymer, I’m an owner like you and will try to help. Have you had any recent electrical storm activity? Is the 120V AC source power supplying the machine on a surge protector? Good troubleshooting steps in verifying 120VAC at the service outlet, was that done with a Digital Volt Meter? If so do you feel OK to troubleshoot 120VAC power? The service manual/schematic doesn’t document the EMI filter (see page 31 of the SM) very well. I believe 120VAC power will pass thru that before being distributed in the machine. I would check 120VAC thru the EMI filter. If it is good there then we would have to get into deeper troubleshooting and verify power to the control board. There are no internal fuses that I’m aware of in the machine. Power is applied to the machine thru the main system relay K6 per the FAV6800AW schematic The FAV6800AW schematic is located in the console of the machine. If you feel you are not qualified to troubleshoot 120VAC power in the machine I would call in a qualified repair service that is familiar with the FAV6800AW. This could be a dead Control Board issue but without a known good Control Board to swap out all we can do is verify power to the control board. Let me know how far you want to go in troubleshooting. Service Manual and Sears Parts Direct for reference.
