No matter how many hours I have my camera plugged

No matter how many hours I have my camera plugged into the wall to charge, when I unplug it, it will not turn on. I did the beginning hours of charge. but this is the first time i have used the camera.

How do I get the camera battery to hold the charge?

The battery may be too low to kick start into charge mode. Buying a new battery will get the camera working again.
