Problem for IBM 4247 Model A00 Matrix Printer

4247 Printer with a 56 Print Error

I have the IBM 4247 set up and have run several print jobs with it. When it runs, it runs beautifully.
When it puts up a 56 print error, I've got to admit I'm confused. If I run the exact same job again it goes through the second time. According to the user guide, I should be able to push the online button once to clear the error and then a second time to resume printing but that hasn't happened. It doesn't clear the error and I have to shut it down and restart the printer.
I have it in 2381 emulation mode with a parallel port connection to an Windows XP host that shares it (utilizing the IBM 2381 driver) to the network. It prints much much faster than anything else we have and I love the way it prints the reports fast and with a crisp appearance. I need to figure out where the 56 print errors are coming from so that it will be reliable.

Hi,
There are a number of potential causes for this error. the most likely is a dirty Printhead Home sensor ( see Pic). Try cleaning it with a cotton bud or compressed air.

Does the problem occur during a self test ? ( print at leat 10 pages )

Let me know if this doesn't sort it.
