Frig stopped running.

Put old frig in garage plugged into heavy duty extension cord then to gfi outlet.  Worked fine for about 4 hrs. Then gfi tripped and won't stay on. Used another heavy d. cord, same thing. Plugged all into outlet in house and frig still won't run.I am a female and am not familiar with what to do. Frig is old, looks like new, ran perfectly this morning. Is there anything I can look for to fix my problem. By the way, I checked out both outlets with my vacuum and both worked fine.  Thanks for any help.

- Thanks for the info. Really appreciate that someone cares. Guess what, I fixed the problem. Turns out that you CANNOT, I repeat, CANNOT plug a frig into a gfi because the frig draws too much current. I fooled around with all the connections I could find on the frig including taking off the hinge to see that connection and then said a prayer, and plugged it into an outlet in the house with the extension cord far away from anything near the garage and IT WORKS. well this isn't really anything to try that will fix your fridge but I thought you might like to know that when moving a refrigerator you are supposed to keep it vertical at all times... if you lay it on its side the fridge needs to sit unplugged for atleast 8 hours before attemptting to use it..... has something to do with the oils in the compressor I believe...

Maybe over pulling more amps the the GFCI curcuit can handle. Check all the GFCI plug and verify if there are anything else plugged in. Including hair dryers and / or flat irons.
