Toshiba Satellite A60 powers up then off after 2 seconds

I have a Toshiba Satellite A60 laptop and the other night I was attempting to do something on battery power and it shut down (went into powersave mode) before I was done. Three days later, I attempted to start it up by using a wall outlet and it powered up and clicked off after about 2 seconds. No BIOS showed, the screen stayed black. I pulled the battery and tried using only AC and it did the same thing. I left it overnight to see if the battery would charge and it did (so I don't think it's the power supply), then tried it and the problem persisted. It was working fine before (with the exception of not coming out of standby - you had to shut down and restart if it went into standby). Otherwise, I have had no major problems. Additionally, it is about 3 - 4 years old. I could really use some help as I am not ready to pay out for a new one. Thanks.

It is not a VGA problem. The computer will not boot. It powers up then back down. I am not sure but I think it is a power source problem. I charged the battery and noticed this morning that though it had not been running, no indicator lights were on showing the battery was charged. The battery initially showed a charge after it was left overnight but the machine still only powered up and back down after two seconds. Thank you for the attempt at assistance though.

Not yet. When I find the time I plan to try and switch out the power supply/jack in the back of the machine. I am hoping it is just a matter of a faulty connection. Thanks for asking.

SOURCE: Toshiba Satellite A60 powers up then off after 2 seconds

Mark F K, truong808, does the cooling fan(s) blow or come on? If not, the system will sense tha ti is overheating and will shut down to prevent further damage. Also, a thermal sensor may be failing on the Mobo and thus keep the fan from initiating. The cheapest fix is to replace the fan. Worst case scenario is another Mobo may be the fix.

Satellite pro A60 powers on then immediately turns off. this is following an attempted bios update

It sounds like you have 'bricked' your laptop, chances are you would have to have it sent off for repair. do you see the POST screen any more before it powers off?

Toshiba satellite A60 no boot

We can only assume that because the cd drive operates then the motherboard is operating in part, although, the southbridge chip may be damaged, as the northbridge works memory etc. Maybe it is that the processor is fried as there is no fan and the system then shuts down. Toshiba are probably half way there with the answer, unless; they investigated further and decided it was not the processor but the motherboard.
