Question about D-Link Express EtherNetwork DI-604 Router

New firmware..now problems

I downloaded new firmware for my D-Link 604 and while I can still onnect to internet sites, I cannot connect to my office anymore. Nothing has changed in my office, and the only thing changed at home, was the new firmware. So I am thinking something is blocking my work IP. Any help would be appreciated.

If I bypass the router, I don't have a problem connect to my office.

Thanks,
Zak

    Thanks for the speedy reply.
Yes, I need to used VPN, but I get successfully authenticated by VPN, but then my office just times out. VPN seems to be a stand alone software, and when I originally set it up, the router was not
    configured my me for VPN.

    Thanks again.

pasha19...thanks for the help, but I have been through this with D-Link during an hour long telephone call. Everything is set up
as in the emulator site you provided. One thing different was they said to disable the Gaming Mode. Did that and still not able to connect through the router.

One of the tech guys here in the office said I need to put a different IP address in the router. Unfortunately it was voice mail so I hope to speak live and find out what he means. I am beginning to think it is not a router problem, but perhaps something new they did at work. I really want to thank you for the time and effort you put into responding. I appreciate your help.

Does your office require VPN passthru to be enabled on the router? Did the firmware update reset the VPN passthru setting blocking your access?

To understand the issue read the following about VPN PassThru

    http://expertanswercenter.techtarget.com...

    http://www.practicallynetworked.com/supp...

The following emulators will allow us to preview accessing the VPN PassThru settings before trying to access them on your router. Your router should respond like one of these two links

    http://support.dlink.com/emulators/di604...

    http://support.dlink.com/emulators/di604...

Do this once for each link

    click the link
    click OK
    click the tools tab
    click misc button
Observe the VPN PassThru settings in the tabbed window.
scroll to the bottom of the window and find the accept button

After doing that we need to try it for real -- let me know if there are any unexpected responses.

Open a browser such as Internet Explorer
    Enter the following:
    http://192.168.0.1
On the logon screen that matches the first one in the demo
you may need to enter admin in the userid
    now we match the demo
    click OK
    click the tools tab
    click misc button
click the enable buttons for vpn Psssthru ptpp and ipsec
scroll to the bottom of the window and click accept

Hopefully your VPN connection should work.

Before using these files, make sure you have the E Revision of that router, you can check by looking on the sticker that contains all the model information like serial, model number.

Be careful while doing a firmware upgrade, very easy to brick your router. Bricking refers to making the router no more useful than an expensive paper weight.

Cant share internet using a router

Hi There, what model of dlink router do you have?
Also, Or just check the ports you have in your router, the internet should be connected to the WAN port and the switch and/or computers to the LAN port(s).
If the router is new by default you should be able to access internet by plug everything the way I told you.
Also, by default the router ip address should be 192.168.1.1, type that into your web browser address bar, then you will have access to the router admin web page were you can see the status page, there will tell you if you have or not access to Internet really. Maybe the problem is that the router have no access internet access at all.

D-link DI-604 problem

I had a same problem a couple of years ago with a DLink router and upgrading the firmware solved it.

The Philippines are covered by DLink's Australian office.
http://www.dlink.com.au. Look in the Support section, you will find the latest firmware and instructions on how to upgrade it.

If you don't find what you are looking for on their tech support web site, you will at least be able to contact them from there.
