Question about Sony CDX-MP70 CD Player

No sound on radio or cd

Problem seems to be with radio. When there is sound a graph goes across bottom up and down according to the music. Now no sound and no graph. Checked all wires and amps, problem seems to be with radio. Tried troubleshoot guide but no luck. Problem was intermittent now no sound at all.

I have this unit in my boat, connected to a JL Audio system with a JL500 sub Amp and JL300 Amp. It was working fine a day ago. Today we put the faceplate on and no sound. Head unit lights up, changes modes, and is visibly playing CDs, as they are counting down. However, no sound. All amps and wiring test good with a meter. No fuses or circuit breakers are blown. ATT is off and reset button in. Cannot figure it out!

If the fault was intermittent it may suggest that there are some dry joints on the internal amplifier which you will need to resolder or there may be a speaker wire shorting to ground, remove the radio and look if there are any signs of damage to the speaker wires

Hello pinkperry,

It sounds like the wiring between the cdplayer and the dash has come loose. When the wires are not making proper connections some of the speakers or functions of the radio cut on and off.

This is just my first thought and the easiest thing to fix. You will have to remove the cd player from the dash. After which you will want to check the wiring. Chances are your cd player has a harness if it's an aftermarket cd player installed in your car. If it does there will be two sets of wires to double check.

Just make sure all the wires are securely twisted together (the sets of wires) and taped up with electrical tape.

Try that and post back if you have any further questions. Thank you for choosing Fixya!
