Step 1: which operating system ? For the most part, IBM has switched its focus away from personal computers and more towards large business items such as servers and networks. However, it is still possible to use and purchase an IBM Thinkpad. These are IBM's version of the laptop. A majority of IBM Thinkpads still use Windows XP and offer the function of connecting to WiFi, as long as the connection has been properly configured.
Power on the IBM Thinkpad and wait for it to completely boot up. Right-click the small wireless desktop icon in the bottom right corner of the screen. Select "View Available Wireless Signals" from the pull-up menu. This is going to load a small window that displays all of the available WiFi signals in the area. There are going to be padlock icons next to the signals if a password has been placed on them. Click on one of the WiFi signals to which you want to connect. If a password is required, you are going to be asked here to type it in. Wait a few moments for the IBM Thinkpad to connect to the WiFi signal. The computer is going to display a small message window once the connection has completed. You have now finished the configuration, and you can begin to surf the Internet.
The Innaccessable Boot Device message means one of 2 things:
1: your hard drive has died - not much here, must replace drive.
2: The master boot record has become corrupt. Without any media, this will be hard to fix. You will need to boot to the Windows CD and either run the recovery console or perform a windows repair to fix this issue.
Is the Battery making the cranking noise? If so the battery is telling you the battery is dying. I have a IBM ThinkPad 380Z and when on the charger it makes a beeeeep noise and goes off and on for almost the entire day and then stops and keeps a solid orange battery light on.
Try booting without battery
this is sometimes due to the boot sequence. identify the key to press so that you can access its bios at start up. a shot message is usually displayed for a short time at start up. please go to the bios and change the boot sequence to start from HDD.
First of all, you have to check whether you can see video signal with surrounding light tilting the screen.
If you can see dim image, all you have to do is replace back-light inverter or fix it. Usually, the fuse is open and you can connect it by simple soldering.
If you can't see dim image, it is another problems.
Give it a try.
This is most likely a system glitch. Try a system restore first, then a system repair with your operating system disc if the restore doesn't do the trick. You should be able to get into the system tools from the task manager to do the restore.
I would recommend you to boot your system and safe mode and do a system restore...To open your computer and safe mode hit the F8 button on your keyboad when the computer is booting up..click safe mode..and then once you get to safe mode its going to give you an option to restore your computer to another day..after the restore is finish, you should be able to use the computer without any problems...
IBM Thinkpad error code 19990301 is a Hard-Disk sector problem. Basically your hard-drive is faulty and you need to replace it.
This is why it wont boot; because the area of the hard-drive that stores data is damaged.
