Same was with mine zv5xxx - authorized service diagnosed motherboard failure :( . I found mine on eBay for 280 $ or so, way too much, so I'll better buy new notebook with maybe some less "Made in China" parts inside....

Power drain would be a better solution in this case.
1.first shut down the comp
2.unplug the charger
3. remove the battery
and after press and hold the power button for 60 seconds without any charger and the battery.After the 60 seconds replug the battery and the charger and turn the computer .
In replaceing the h/d, did u forget a screw that holds something down.?, sometimes metel to metel acts like a heat sink to get rid of harmful heat. If u started getting "blue screen" of death after h/d replacement. look for anything loose on mother board .Check connections to cpu\fan\heat sink.
