You need to buy it (with Wii points) from the Wii Shopping Channel, it will then automatically be downloaded and installed for you.

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you.

As I said you need to buy it (with Wii points) from the Wii Shopping Channel, on your Wii, with your Wii connected to the internet.

This is the only way to get hold of Opera for Wii.

You can buy Wii points through the shopping channel or at pretty much any store that sells Wii games but Opera for Wii has to be bought through the  Wii Shopping Channel.

If you are asking is it available through the Chinese Wii Shopping Channel you would need to tell me.

After connecting your Wii to the internet select the shopping channel and go to the Wii Ware section, if Opera is available to mainland Chinese customers (and I'd be surprised if it is not) it will be listed there.

Perhaps you can let the rest of the world know if it's there or not by posting back here.

    Nick. :)

The Internet Channel is a special version of the Opera browser. The Internet Channel is compatible with Flash, up to version 8. It is compatible with all earlier versions, but versions higher than 8 will not be compatible. There is currently no way to download and install higher versions of the Flash Player to the Wii console.

Important Notes about the Internet Channel and Opera Browser
  • The information on this page describes the features found in the latest version of the Internet Channel (ver. 9.30). You can identify the version number of your Internet Channel by selecting the Opera/Home icon in the tool bar of the browser, then clicking on the "Opera Powered" icon at the top of the screen.

  • USB keyboard support is only available for version 9.30. Visit the Wii Channels section of the Wii Shop Channel to obtain the latest version.

  • The Internet Channel supports http and https. It is not compatible with other types of protocols, such as ftp, mailto, etc.

  • The Internet Channel is compatible with Flash, up to version 8. It is compatible with all earlier versions, but versions higher than 8 will not be compatible. There is currently no way to download and install higher versions of the Flash Player to the Wii console.

  • You can allow access to the Internet Channel through the Parental Controls of the Wii. If the controls are enabled, access to the Internet Channel will require the PIN to be entereed.

  • When entering website address, you do not need to type in "http://"; however, websites that begin with "https://" will need to be entered in full.

  • The Classic Controller, Nintendo GameCube Controller, and Nunchuk are not used with the Internet Channel. In addition, only one Wii Remote will work with the Internet Channel at a time. USB keyboard support is available for versions 9.30 and higher. Visit the Wii Channels section of the Wii Shop Channel to obtain the latest version.

  • Many types of video playback, such as QuickTime (.avi) and Windows Media Video (.wmv) are not compatible with the Opera Browser and will not play.

  • The Internet Channel costs 0 Wii Points to download, and is available in the Wii Shop Channel, in the Wii Channels section.

  • The Wii console supports cookies. At this time, there is no way to delete cookies without deleting the Internet Channel's saved data from the system memory

How do i get wii shop chanel

    Hello

To get to wii shop channel first you need to configure your system
Configure your Nintendo Wii for a wireless Internet connection. The only way to access the Wii Shop is by having an Internet connection and a wireless router. The Nintendo Wii has a built-in wireless router that can pick up signals from wireless Internet connections. Make sure that your wireless Internet router is close enough so that the Nintendo Wii can pick up a signal.

    Loading Wii Shop;
Use your Wii remote to select the Wii Shop from the main Wii channel menu. The Wii Shop is located in the top right-hand corner of the screen. If your Internet access is not set up yet, then you will be prompted and automatically brought to the Internet Configuration menu. Once your Internet is set up, you will either be brought back to the Wii Shop or the main channel menu.

    Navigating the Main Menu
Look at the main Wii Shop menu. Here you will be given two main options with a couple of general options at the bottom of the screen. The first option is to look for games for the virtual console. The Virutal Console contains games from past systems like Turbo Grafx 16, NEOGEO, NES, Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64. Once you have loaded the virtual console menu, you can search games by most popular title, new titles, system, genre or price. When you have found a game that you are interested in, press the "A" button to see a more detailed description with a couple of screen shots, and find out how many Wii Points the game costs.

    Wii Points
Purchase Wii Points directly through the Wii Shop by using a credit or debit card. You will use the Wii remote to point and select all of the card holder information. The minimum amount of Wii Points you can buy is 1,000 for $10, so if you want a game for 700 Wii Points, then you will have 300 points left over for future purposes. Instead of using a credit card through the Wii store, you can purchase a Wii Points card at a local retailer. These cards come in different point values, and 100 points represents a dollar.

    Downloading the Software
Finalize your game purchase by confirming how many Wii Points will be deducted from your account. Once you have done this, the game download will begin. While it only takes a few minutes to download, you can see the progress by watching a Mario character jump and hit a brick. Once he has reached the third brick, your download is complete. From there, you can continue to shop in the Wii Shop or play the game.

    Wii Ware
Check out the other option that is labeled as "Wii Ware." Wii Ware is a lot like the Virtual Console, but everything created here is new and original for the Wii. You can get updated channels like the new Photo Channel or get exclusive Wii Shop games like "Midnight Pool" and "Family Table Tennis." The games here actually are interactive Wii games, and you can get the full game for a lot cheaper than a new Wii game from a store.

No you do not, to go online you have to do the wii connect and set up an internet connection. To browse the web however, you'll need to purchase the Opera Web Browser from the online store.

How do i setup internet on my wii?

First you'll need a compatible wireless router that can be found by going to the following site: http://www.nintendowifi.com/
From there, select your country, which will then take you to the WiFi index page. On this page, mouse over TECH SUPPORT at the top and from the menu that drops down, click on ROUTER INFO. Near the top of the following page, under the words "I don't own a wireless router, help me find one!" there is a "click here" link, which will finally take you to Nintendo's wireless router rating page, which you can look through to either see if your router will work or if you don't have a router, which one to get. For reference, if you live in North America, here is the router rating page.
The following are pics I took of my TV when first setting up my Wii's internet connection...
    From the wii home menu...

Go to Wii Options in the lower left.

Click on Wii Settings to the right.

From this first list, click the right arrow.

Now on page 2, click on Internet.

    Then click Connection Settings.

From this list, click Connection 1.

    Then, click Wireless Connection...

and then click Search for an Access Point.

It will briefly search for any access points and when this screen comes up, click OK.

The following will be a list of nearby access points. If the one you are looking for doesn't show up, click Try again. Then, click the one you have access to...

When the following screen appears, click OK...

    and OK again.

    It will test the connection...

And if successful, the following will drop down. Click Yes to update Wii.

Sometimes the above screen is false, saying there is an update when there isn't and the following will appear...

Now, back in Wii System Settings, click on WiiConnect24.

From the following list click WiiConnect24.

Click On and then Confirm to save your settings. This feature allows for updates to be seemlessly sent to your Wii so you don't have to do the final step every time.

Ok, the final step, just as a way to make sure your Wii is up to date. Click the right arrow from the 2nd page of Wii System Settings.

    Click Wii System Update...

    click yes...

it will test your connection for a few seconds...

an update screen may quickly come up and tell you there is an update (whether or not your Wii actually needs one)

and the following screen will appear. Click Wii Menu to finish.

Now, some of you have gotten different errors and have had problems getting online. I'm guessing many of these hassles come from the fact that hundreds if not thousands of new Wii owners are all trying to, for example, post on the Wii Message Boards and browsing the Wii Shop, looking at and downloading Virtual Console games, all at the same time. In probably a week or so, many of these problems will disappear, so don't worry. if you require further assistance please let me know and i will be glad to assist you. -Midwest-tek

Not being able to get the internet

    Bobbybunny,

the Wii does not ship by default with a web browser, but you can go into the wii store and under virtual console you can buy opera for 500 wii points (probably <US$10) then you can surf the net to your hearts content.

    Wii internet

What do you mean by "normal" internet? If you download the full version of Opera's browser in the Virtual Console's "Wii Ware" section you can do lots of things that you couldnt in the demo version of the browser.
