No scan icon after several reinstalls

I have reinstalled the scan driver for my DCP-7045N several times, emptied the trash and restarted several times, but for some reason the good ole scan icon in my top menu bar just doesn't show.
And as the scan driver doesn't install in the Applications folder, I can't launch it from there either.
I use a iMac runnning Apple OS X Leopard, and everything was fine until a week or two ago, when the icon disappeared.
I have performed the reinstall on several macs with the same setup - but to no avail.
Hope someone can help me out!
