Xbox 360 GPU is dying, but no RROD?

My xbox 360 is currently turning on fine, however there is only sound through my tv and no picture whatsoever. A little research has told me that this is the gpu on its way out, not uncommon in the least. Now, this 360 has been returned to ms for servicing (rrod, probably about 6 months ago) and they refurbished the unit and sent it back, where it played fine till about a week ago. I guess I have two questions;
1) Is it possible in their refurbishing that they somehow made it so that if it failed it wouldn't rrod and they wouldn't have to honour the warranty? and
2) How can I make it rrod so I can get the bastards to fix it for free?

Yessir, I have also tried a new cable. The problem exists solely inside the box.

Have you switched the HD switch on the AV cable input on the xbox side?

Xbox 360 Console: when i turn my xbox 360 on the power button turns ...

This sounds like the Infamous Red Ring of Death also known as Rrod. This is basically where your circuitry has just burnt out and has died. You can either take it to a Game Shop to mend it or get a new 360. if you choose the new 360 R.I.P Someones 360

My xbox 360 will not produce picture on the T.V.

I believe your xbox may be heading towards the RROD
(Red Ring of Death) it is due to the graphics card overheating and has now failed but it hasnt caused a total hardware failure which is why you are still getting sound! their are fixes on ebay if you look for RROD repair kits you will come across quite a few, make sure it has a guide, if you are confident you should have no problems, what you will need is T10 and T8 screwdrivers, sellotape, wd40 and a repair kit with thermal paste and about 1 to 2 hrs of spare time.
Hope this helps

Sounds like you have a fault with the GPU, same fix as the RROD, you need to do the RROD repair.

My xbox 360 has no video or sound... No splash screen, nothing... Just a black screen.. No RROD.. I tried 3 av cables and same result.. plaese help

Probably the same problem as the RROD, just without the lights. Reflowing the CPU and GPU and replacing the thermal compound with Artic silver 5 should fix the problem.

During game play my video went to garbage and RROD

if your 360 is still in warranty try to send it back to microsoft and ask for recall, cause it´s a hard problem to fix..RROD is terrible to fix, here in Brazil we have the same problem even worst sometimes...to fix your 360 you will need to reflow the bga solder points under the 360 GPU processor.. it is located under the dvd drive...and under the gpu heatsink..after reflowing your gpu..you will need to apply a thermal paste called artic silver...try to change the gpu heatsink with another better one...and install a internal coolermod...Any doubts call me...search for thermalright TR-360 the solution for XBOX !!! Good Luck !!!

Xbox plays sound but no picture, changed cords and televisions, still no luck

There might be a problem with the GPU (Graphic Processing Unit). At this point you'll either have to replace the unit or try to induce RROD if it's still under warranty for 3 yrs from Microsoft.

Have had xbox wired up with no problems to tv turned it on and while playing tv went blank no sound or picture, tried on different tv but still the same, even tried new cable from xbox to tv no rrod seems...

even though it does not 3rrod or any other error it seems to me to be a similar fault, ive repaired consoles that have had no audio and video OR no video but still had sound.

its the same sort of fix as 3rrod but requires a proper reflow of the gpu, cpu and ana chips etc.

we can fix this for you np for £40 which includes return delivery to your door AND vat. we can also dig out some guides if you want to attempt the repair yourself.
