same thing, just that i've been using my 500 GB buffalo drive for over 30 days already. first time that i've encountered this problem, any help is greatly appreciated.
are you giving it good ventilation. you may also be having a hard drive failure that is coming. I had a western digital drive that did the same thing I am still able to copy files, i ran hard rive testers to see if its faulty and it comes back fine. But i also dont use it as much. I would moveall data off it and reformat it to see if that fixes it. do it in small sessions though, move as much as it can handle. cut it off for a little and try some more till its been completely removed. then lower level format it and see if it can just sit on with no data without beeping. it may just need a better fan or ventilation to keep it cooler. HEAT is the enemy

I installed a Buffalo 1 TB external DriveStation yesterday. When I turned it on today, it began making this beeping noise and is not recognized in Windows Explorer. I am not finding any reason for this. If the USB is disconnected the beeping stops but restarts.
