Sony cdp - c445 cd multi player (5)

I am obviously doing something wrong here. I posted a question about 4 hours ago and don't know how to find it.
I checked my profile and found no indication that I had posted.

I indicated that we had "tiny hands" visitors recently and that our cd ...multi 5 disc is now not working properly. We are all adults here in the household.
In any event my bro gave it to us when he moved without giving a manual. We have encountered no problems to date.

What happens now is when we try to play our 5 discs and usually listen to each disc all in order and each song in order there is a "mess".

As an example I press Disc 3 Song 1 and there is a whirring shuffling sound inside and the Disc moves to 5 and starts playing Song 3 as an example and I attempt to enter Disc 3 and Song 1 again and this continues to persist.
When the song finishes I then enter another Disc number and song number and try again and then sometimes it will go to say Disc 5 song 6 and even Repeat that song.

All we have ever done here is manual selection of discs and songs and had no issues.
We have never programmed, shuffled etc. as had no manual and would not know what we are doing. We were satisfied with what we did.

It would be great to have the manual, however Googling brought out nothing.
I tried shutting off the power bar for the stereo system and counting to 10 which sometimes helps "Vcr" problems and turned the power bar back on and the problem was still there.
We are putting up our Christmas tree and would like to get the cd player working properly.
I genuinely hope that there is some one here that can lend assistance or point to where we may find a manual.
Kind Regards, with Great Appreciation for your time.

- The unit was playing fine until I caught our visitors small child pressing miscellaneous buttons on the front...which are to name a few, program, shuffle, continue....repeat, edit time/fade, check, clear.
The little fella was having a great time touching the buttons and that is when the problem started and I don't have a manual.
Some of the discs that were normally circled to show inclusion of playing are no longer circled and some of the song numbers are not listed, which to me shows that buttons were touched to make it "shuffle" and also the "repeat" button as well as one song will repeat.
I simply want to get it back to the default set up.
We are not fancy users of these options and the child had a fun time pressing them !!!
I guess that I will have to track down a manual....any suggestions, as I don't want to pay an arm and a leg for one.
Thank you again for your time.

- Guess what I got it to go back to Normal....All that I had to do was press the "Continue" button and that put it back to default of strictly playing Discs 1 thru 5 and each song in their order on these discs !!!!

Thanks for trying to help and I have managed to find a place locally here where I can pick up a manual in a used hi fi store that gives them away if there are extras !!!!

Cheers to everyone here and whoa......I am glad that it is not the Laser needing replacement !!!
I knew those little hands pressing buttons while it was playing fine were the fundamental reason that it quit working properly !!!

- Thx again for the suggestion, however as I posted I simply had to press the "continue" button and it set it back to playing all of the Discs and all of the songs in their order !!!!
Again thankyou and I am certainly glad that it was not the Laser. The little fingers while it was playing fine were hitting buttons when my back was turned !!!

And I am getting the manual from a used hi-fi store. Had it simply started doing this upon my using the player after it had been sitting shut off, I would have considered a CD laser problem possibility. But the timing of this problem was to coincidental to what I saw happening!!!!
I hope that experts will keep my lesson in mind....I just needed a manual to solve the problem.
Many thankyous!!! And Cheers as we put the Christmas tree up to Dean Martin's "Marshmallow World". !!!
Our evening is going great !!!!

sorry but your unit might need a new laser assembly. Laser assembly is weak.Repair would be around $75-95 at an honest repair facility .But first I would try to blow off laser with air duster can.Open unit up ,power up and press OPEN tray without disc. You will see laser assembly against back of unit in the middle .dust off laser eye carefully .then try it,,goodluck
