Question about Televison & Video

My Daewoo TV just went to all purple and green

This TV has been performing well until the color just went crazy.  I contacted Dish Satellite and they said that it is not their problem.

The speakers are not on. They are a shelf above the TV. The TV is off. No way, am I going to remove the back of the TV. I do not have tools or the capacity to do that job by myself.

I appreciate your advice. The speakers have been in the same position for more than a year. They are not large, but I was able to disconnect and remove them. They are now in a different room; The color is still green and purple.
Do you think a tecnician would come to the house? Is that something they generally do? I am a 68 year old woman and can not think of taking it to a repair shop myself.

Do you have speakers near the screen like stereo speakers ? if so move them away see if that helps , you will need to shut off tv for a while once speakers are moved , if that dosent fix it , u may need to adjust the 3 nobs which are behind the tv, you will need to remove the back of the tv cover , please remember safety , the should be 3 knobs which u can turn , one is for blue ,green , and red , adjust these until the screen is normal again, magnet's are the biggest cause of this problem , as a last resort for home fix it , u can sometimes use a magnet on the front of the screen to shift the colours around , i have used this method a few times and its worked ! , but its not reccomended and i suggest u do this after all else fails ,

the speakers dont need to be on, its the magnets inside the speakers that do the damage , if they are large speakers it is possible that long term exspoure has caused this

i am sorry, if i knew of your age i would not have suggested what i told you to do , my sincire appoligies , yes if you look in your local directory book , look for mobile tv repairs , try to find one with a free quote, they will come out and look at it for you at your house, you could try ringing your loacal directory to make the job easier for you , if you would like help to find someone to come out to you , i will need some info on where you are from e.c.t , but i think the best bet is to ring your phone directory , over here in Australia we have a number we can call and they will search for the buisness type for you , and there are plenty of buisness places that come out to your home for this sort of job , depending on the age of the TV , it may be worth calling up a family member and going out to buy a another tv all together , new or seconhand , there are some good seconhand tv's around that will most likely be cheaper than the cost of fixing your old one, thats why i suggest make sure you call someone that can come around and give you a free quote on the cost to repair , that way you will know if its worth fixing or buying a another tv all together , hope iv helped you , good luck , anything else you need to know , just ask , i will reply right away .

Green and purple horizontal lines

You will most likely need what is called a scan converter/scaler. It will convert your source signal to the desired signal for you. You can find these online.

My lcd tv has a purple screen and no sound

same problem all set to replace TV but tried another source DVD instead of dish and it was fine. Possible the cable (cheap HDMI) but reboot the dish (hard) pull the plug and fixed it up, probably the HDMI connection at the source or the TV (or the cable)

The color seems to be off. No red, and lots of purple. This is a Toshiba 57H81 wide screen big box tv. It was purchased in 2002.

Could be a bad board within the tv but it is sometimes the source input meaning it could be dvd player, cable/satellite box, etc causing the loss of color but it is unlikely. I have one of these tvs and they use red green and blue projectors to reproduce the colors so when the red projector fails then you get purple which is green and blue colors combined without the red. I have found it to be sometimes a bad connection inside the tv and I found insects such as roaches inside others. Using extreme caution when opening the rear cover of any tv due to dangerous and fatal high voltage. You might find that simply cleaning out the inside of tv and reseating all the connectors might resolve your issue otherwise you would have haul this tv to a repair shop where you pay half the price of a new flat screen lcd for just repairing this tv which will probaly have another color go out next month.

Chuck the TV - probably It depends on the repair facilities available where you live. In big urban areas the cost of staffing a repair shop is such it can cost nearly as much per hour just to look at an item is it does to buy the next one-plus you get all the latest features.
