Re: Canon A520 - dropped the camera

I have worked on many different cameras and I think the first thing to do would be to remove all the tiny screws that you can find, Draw a diagram of the camera and place all the screws on the diagram where they came out, the reason, they are not all the same length. I believe you will have to remove the chrome piece on the front, it has a couple of screws, but is mainly held on by double sided sticky tape and it sticks real good. After you get to this point, separate the from and rear housing by prying the bottom open first. The top is snapped together. It will take some pressure to separate the two halves. I don't remember how many ribbon cables that are inside, but that would sure cause you problem if any one of them was partially pulled from its socket. You can also see if any of the components are broke at this point. BE REALLY CAREFUL and don't touch the flash circuit. The flash capacitor will probably be loaded and if you touch the wrong place on the camera, you will receive about 3000 volts, probably won't kill you but it will sure make you hurt yourself trying to get loose from the voltage. Most of the flash circuit is located at the top of the camera. BE CAREFUL, Good Luck, hope it is just a lose ribbon cable.

Incompatibility canon camera powershot a520 and windows7

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Windows Photo Gallery or any other photo cataloging program.

I bet you can't solve this.

We have a Canon A520 and it was having all the symptoms noted. Searched for a resolution on numerous sites including the Canon Support site. While on the Canon Support site, I found an FAQ on "How to RESET the A520". Turn camera on, find and hold MENU button for 5+ seconds until "Reset settings to default?" screen appears. Arrow over to OK and press the SET button. When we did this the battery low indicator showed, replaced batteries with standard alkaline batteries. Everything functions properly, with no additional problems for the past 5 days. I guess the camera just lost its mind and had to be defaulted and rebooted, hope this helps.

this must be a defective product if you did not accidantally drop it go back to the place you bought it or contact canon if that doesn't help. a digital camera is not a one week or one month toy , it should work for at least one year (or even 3 years depending on consumers law.)
