I have this same problem. My 15" Dell LCD monitor recently crapped out. The "on" button light flashes, along with the screen. The screen flash is a very low, very fast flicker, nothing more.

I'd like to know the fix (if any) as my warranty is well overdue. Thanks!!

I can usually get mine to work by gently squeezing the edges, like I am about to pick the monitor up. (discovered this by accident!) Mine usually works best by squeezing the left, or even rapping on the top of the monitor. I am still searching for a permanent fix, but because I can get mine to work, I am too nervous about opening it up and messing around inside it. One that doesn't want to turn on without help is better than no monitor at all!

Solution: Replace cap. Radio Shack sells a 1000uF, 35V cap for $2. This will work.

Why did the cap go bad? The cap is too close to a heat sink and over heated.

What does this cap do? This cap sends a signal to an IC which keeps the monitor 'on' after the power switch is pushed. When the cap is weak, AC ripple voltage is applied to the IC and it sends a signal to shut the monitor off.

Opening the Monitor: These monitors are difficult to open.

The two plastic pieces snap together and must be pried apart with a flat screw driver.

After removing the stand, you need to insert a flat screw driver at the bottom of the screen where two slots are located. Then work the screw driver around until the two plastic pieces are separated.

Remove the cover plate and unscrew the push button circuit board.

Unplug the monitor cords from the driver board and remove the screen.

Unscrew the mounting screws from the power supply board and remove.

You will need to pinch the plastic support in the middle of the board to remove.

Cap Replacement:

Cap is located near a copper heat sink and the value will be on the side of the cap. It will be bulged up on the top. You will see burn marks on the board surrounding the cap. Unsolder the cap.

Install the new cap and solder. Make sure you connect + of the cap to + marked on the board.

Be careful not to solder across joints.

Keep leads long so you can bend the cap as far away from the heat sink as possible.

Reassemble monitor and turn on.

This should solve the problem.

Black screen on computer monitor

Here is the link for the E151FPb monitor manual.
Since you email your question you have access to get this manual and print it. The manual shows the Auto set button, the contrast control button and a monitor reset feature.

Unfortunately you have to do each of these blind. Follow the instruction given, push buttons smartly, wait a few seconds for any action to take place, then follow the next instruction.

Good luck.

Power light flashes till i smack the back of my monitor lightly then it will work for a while?

looks like a loose connection in the monitor better take it to service personnel. and don't smack it cos if the loose cable hits any internal portions of the monitor a big showdown can happen.

take it to a service personnel asap

My dell 1905FP power button flashes green and will not turn off, the screen is black.

Hello,

This is a common indication of a failure in the power supply. There are parts called capacitors that are used in the filter section of the power supply, when they go out the power supply can't properly turn on so you get no picture and a flashing power light. Here is a picture of the power supply board with the problem filter capacitors circled in yellow and below the picture in a link to a repair guide with details dis-assemble and repair instruction along with parts list for the Dell 1905FP and 1907FP models.

that sounds like a computer problem, not a monitor problem.  Plug the 'old' monitor in and see if your computer will boot with it.
