Question about Samsung ML 1430 Laser Printer

Samsung ML 1430 - won't print; paper light flashes

When I send a file to the printer, the data light flashes for a moment, then the yellow paper light blinks. Samsung tech support ran me through a number of diagnostics, then concluded it was a hardware problem. It will cost more than the printer is worth to have it looked at and/or repaired at a repair shop. Anyone have an idea what the problem might be and how to fix it?

Thanks for the help. My printer suddenly started working, even though I had the IT people at the University where I used to work try their hand at fixing it. They are pretty sharp but had no success. The solution may have lay in reloading the driver, which I did, but I'm not sure. Anyway, I filed away your solution and will give it a shot if and when the machine starts acting up again.

I can't seem to find the proper driver.  I just bought an imac intel with Leopard and it isn't showing in the list of drivers.  Any help would be appreciated.

After upgrading to system 10.3.9, the ML-1430 print driver didn't work, and Samsung no longer offers the driver. So I used Gutenprint, which was super-easy to install, and the printer now shows up in the print dialog box. But, same problem: the print center shows the data being sent, but the printer data light does not blink, even though it will print a demo sheet fine.

Looks like the solution will be the usual default upgrade route: buy a new printer! Damn.

Tuesday, October 17, 2006 Samsung ML-1430 Won't Feed Paper My printer had stopped feeding paper reliably a while ago. This had reduced me to manually pushing each sheet of paper into the machine until the roller caught it. Which, in turn, often resulted in many explicatives directed towards said printer.

All in all I like the Samsung ML-1430, which has been discontinued. It was pretty inexpensive, the toner cartridges aren't too bad considering I really have gotten thousands of pages (at Staples, which has a wicked good customer loyalty program, IMHO).

However, after only two years, there is this feed problem. I found the answer in an Amazon posting (thank you brs for posting this). Here is the solution from there:

  1. You need to rotate the rubber band on the feeder roll to a fresh surface. Start by turning off the printer, disconnecting it from power & data feed.
  2. Remove the two screws from the back panel and press the small tabs to pull the back panel off.
  3. Open the front of the machine and remove the two screws that hold the top panel in place. Take note of how the sheet feeder sits in this assembly. The sheet feeder is not screwed in, but rather held in by the other pieces.
  4. Remove the toner cartridge and set aside.
  5. There are four screws that go through the metal plate now visible at the top. Leave the wires connected and remove these screws. Take note that there is a grounding cable that needs to be reconnected.
  6. You need to remove that top assembly, so take note of how the roller fits into the black tie rod that actually turns the roller. I found that lifting the unit up and sliding it to the right (as viewed from the back) disconnected the roller from the tie rod.
  7. Remove one screw from the roller pickup assembly and disassemble the roller.
  8. Note that one side of the rubber band is shinier than the other. This is the problem. Carefully work the rubber band off, rotate it 180 degrees and slide it back on to the roller.
  9. Reassemble and test
This repair took less than 20 minutes and I expect that it will last another two years of rather heavy usage.

BTW, brs on Amazon also provided a repair part number: JC72-00109A. However, searching on Samsung for this part yielded nothing. I suspect this is due to the machine being discontinued.

Have fun!

Cannot print on new Macbook with Leopard Mac OS - need driver

I just upgraded to snow leopard and my previous driver was erased, so I did some digging around and found the right driver (it is not included even in the most recent GutenPrint software).
Look at the Global Samsung website - the US Samsung site does not support MacOS drivers.
Your OS should ask to install Rosetta to read the file (Zip), but then the install is quick and easy. The printer driver immediately showed up in the printer>setup>driver menu. Prints without a hitch.
Haven't booted my laptop into 64bit kernel, so I don't know if the driver is 64bit compatible - I expect not. Hope this helps.

I found out that each time you print from the manual load tray, i.e. letters and labels, once you have the paper in the manual load tray press print and then press the demo button to start the manual feed. I hope this helps.

Send doc to printer and the lights all start flashing and won't pring

use the auto clean function : i.e. press the demo button for about 10 sec. until all lights on the release ---- it will automatically clean internally. You can read the manual -- this is a LSU error.
