Of course, Sony wants you to use only Sony blank media. :-)

for 1.4GB "mini DVD-RW" disks made by MEMOREX.

Look at any of the "big-box" stores (BestBuy, FutureShop, Staples, OfficeDepot, WalMart, et cetera) for "mini DVD-RW" media.

Years ago, my Memorex DVD RW 4x disks were good on my DVD recorder in the beginning. Now the disks are all un-recordable on DVD recorders. Why? George

DVD's only have a guaranteed life span of around 7 years before they begin to deteriate so it's possible they have now deteriated. Also if there stored in a damp or high humidity area then this will speed up the deteriating process

I am trying to save an excel spreadsheet and QB's information onto a DVD+RW 4X int he "Open Writable CD folder using Windows Explorer but it will not copy. I see no other place to save it to

DVD-RW media has to be properly formatted to be able to write to it. Use a DVD management application like Roxio or Sonic. There are also some free apps online that can accomplish the same thing.

How do i format a write protected cd

If it is write-protected, then it is a CD-R or DVD-writable that has been written on -- once written, you cannot "format" it, nor "erase" any files.
Such is the "design" of "write-once" disks.

If it is a CD-RW or a DVD-RW, then you can "erase" the disk, because it has been designed to be "rewritable".

It tells me 4.7 GB but it has only 4.38 of available space, why?

They are advertised as 4.7 gb but in reality they are 3.38 because they use decimal prefixes instead of binary prefixes. Most all of your software uses the binary prefixes. This is why windows only shows 4.38 gb because it is reading the disks binary information.

In the equations, you loose that little extra storage.

Rewriting on Verbatim DVD-RW

when you burn disks you have to choose the option "appendable disk"(or in simple words to create a disk where you can add information -data-later if you wish to do so)
If you just record the data on a cd without this option you will get the error -disk is full-

Not readable.

If the disks do not work on any of the three players they are probably faulty, try buying a spare disk of same kind , or writing a disk from a different pack, it it does work then you bought a box of faulty DVDs, ask a refund.
If disk from different box gives same problem when burned on same computer, then there may be a problem with DVD burning software, try doing a system restore to a recent date,
