Canon A450 internal battery problem?

Hi, we have the above camera which is near new. Whenever we turn it on it asks to input date and time. Then after a short while the camera turns off. We have tried different batteries to no avail. Is there an internal battery that keeps the time and date settings? Perhaps this is faulty?

Re: Canon A450 internal battery problem?

There are cameras with 'fixed' internal batteries to maintain date/time they are long lived and not usually replaceable.
If this is such a model and it is new then a replacement should be forth coming from the vendor or Canon.
The vendor is the first stop then Canon support

When I turn on my camera it asks for date and time but when I try to set it the camera shuts off

It's usually because you need to change the internal battery for a new one, very easily located next to the battery port, directly underneath pull it up and replace it with a new CR1220 and replace the batteries too just to be on the safe side

Why Canon powershot not holding date

Most likely the date back up battery needs replacing. It is at the bottom left of your camera. Remove the cover and replace the button battery. Please check the battery number (probably CR1220 Lithium 3.0) and and install it right way round. Don't use metallic tweezers to hold the battery as it will short-circuit and drain the battery.

Every time I turn on camera it ask to set date,

The Time/Date battery is a small round lithium battery the size of a dime in the battery compartment. You can get the numbers off it and buy one at Walmart or Ebay.

Everytime I turn on my camera it asks me to set date/time. It goes to the default date/time setting of 00.00.0000 00:00 mm/dd/yy. What do I do to set the date/time so that it permanent? The photos are...

It takes around four hours for a freshly charged main battery to charge the internal backup battery. It you do that and it still doesn't charge it, you need a new internal battery. The fully charged internal battery in most of them will hold the charge for up to 3 weeks with the main battery out of the camera.

The date and time is asked whenever the camera is switched on

Have you set the date and time? If so then your camera's date battery is probably dead and needs to be replaced. First get yourself a CR1220 battery, most often found at your local Radio Shack or online at amazon. Then open the camera's terminal cover (where your USB is) and using your fingernail. Open the battery holder, remove the old battery, and replace with the new one. Reinsert the holder with new battery in your camera and turn on your unit. set the date and time and you should be all set. For further information see your instruction manual or download from Canon at:'

The instructions for changing the date battery start on page 137.

Hope this helps!

Camera Canon A710 IS started to ask set time date when turned on

When the camera is left without power for an extended period of time, the time and date settings are gone. You need to reset them and when you're finished, click the set/ok button twice.

No memory card, set time

The date/time battery is "built in" (not replaceable) to this model according to page 13 in the manual (available here). It is supposed to recharge when you have the regular battery installed, but if you leave the regular battery out for more than "approximately three weeks", the internal battery may go flat.

I'm not sure this has anything to do with the memory card issue, though. Check the battery problem by inserting a freshly charged battery, turning on the camera and setting the correct date and time, then turning off the camera and waiting an hour or so (with the main battery still in the camera). Turn the camera back on, and if the date and time have to be reset again, your internal battery may be bad, and the camera would need to be serviced.

Adjusting date and time

According to Canon, the backup memory lithium battery (interal) recharges off the main AA batts that you put in... the manual says it takes about 4 hours to charge this battery.
When not in use, leave the AA batts in the camera .. see if this helps keep the date/time memory!

The date time problem ist he internal battery[ A watch type button inside the camera body]
has worn out- replacing it will be a workshop job.
The other problem seems like wear and tear on the switch any repair will be costly.
Just live with[out]it- or buy a new camera
