You just need the touch screen (digitizer). There are actually 2 pieces that are mistaken to be the screen. The other piece is the touch screen and beneath that is the LCD display. The outer scratched screen is the touch screen.

Ebay, and various online retailers have them for around $40. You can do it yourself if you try.

To replace, you need a micro phillips head screw driver and a T-6 torx screw driver. Also patience, and a steady hand.

You must start at the back of the device, through the battery door. Remove the 2 micro phillips at the top of the battery opening (one is covered with a tamper evidence sticker). Then carefully, starting at the bottom of the camera plate, pry upwards and to the speaker to unsnap the smaller facing. Remove the camera by gentally pulling up to unplug, then unscrew the circuitry and remove. This will expose the 4 torxs (2 in batt opening) to remove the back cover. After screws are removed, gentally work the covers snaps loose around perimeter and remove (pay attention to the speaker wire) unplug it from the circuitboard. Pull the antenna nub to detach.

Remove the screws holding the circuitboard, unpluging the keyboard and slider ribbon cable. Gentally hold the ribbon cable and remove the securing tape. (dont pull too hard!) Pulling the circuitboard exposes the 4 micro phillips screws (2 each side) to detach the slider.

Remove the 4 torx screws on the back of the LCD slider, then gentally pry around to separate the housing.

To remove the LCD / Touch screen you must unplug the ribbon cables. To do this you need to open the connector's trap (black bar). It hinges. Just pry upwards from the ribbon side. Once bar is lifted ribbon will slide out. Be careful if you need to remove the gold foil tape. Remove the single screw holding the ear speaker, and the ribbon should come out. The screen will not come out after gentally prying it free of the holding snaps in the casing.

Installation is simply the reserve. Hope this helps....

If the screen does not have deep scratches, then you can polish the scratches out using a car polish cutting compound.

Well your disc is officially garbage because it's scratched. Don't bother trying to fix your game disc. Do what I did. Go to sellitbroken.com and sell your game to them. They will give you good money for it.

My DS lite has really bad scratches on the touch screen. I bought a new touch screen off ebay, but when i went to replace it, I found that all I needed was a little panel that sits on top of the tough...

yeah they should come with screen protectors.. =( I scratched mine to hell before i realized what a screen protector was, and ended up trading it in at gamestop and buying a new one. I know it's not an answer to what you're looking for, but that's what i did.. =(
