Handycam suddenly won't turn off. When I remove the battery it turns off ,of course, but when I reinstall the battery it starts up even though it is on off. If I try to record it won't and a C:13:01 shows up on the upper right hand of the screen and is flashing. Window shows 103 minutes of battery power left. It wants to stay in photo mode and won't stay in video mode. It will take photos but it won't video. Basically the on/off/mode ring is not working. Can you help? Thanks, Mike

Thank you, It is a DCR-SR42 Sony Handtcam. I've narrowed down the problem. The ring that allows you to turn it on and off and switch modes is not functional. It won't turn on or off and is stuck in picture mode rather than video mode. I can get it to turn on by disconnecting the battery and re conecting it. It then turns on but won't change to video mode. It will take photos bur I need it to video as we are on vacation in Glacier National Park. Help me please. Mike

when I open the LCD housing there is a reset button on the camera. When I push the button, it resets and takes me to "area set" which asks me to pick the country I am in. You say to remove the LCD and press another reset button. I can't figure out how to remove the LCD in order to reveal a second reset button. Help, Mike

DCR SR42 Sony Handicam 30 GB Hard disk drive There is no memory stick in the slot. Mike

  • costuros Sep 09, 2009

The model number is DCR-SR42 It has a hard disk drive and so it doesn't use a memory stick. Thanks, Mike

My Handycam DCR-SR42 is able to play what we have recorded it just won't record anything more and won't turn on and off as it is stuck in photo mode. I have tried the reset button to no avail. It may need a new switch control block.

Could you post the model of your sony.

Seems to be a Memory Stick Error. Take the memory stick out of the camcorder, and clean the contacts.

Take any lead pencil. Take the eraser and rub it on the gold contacts on the memory stick as if you are erasing writing on paper. Do this for about 30 seconds or more until you get all the gold contacts clean.

Put the stick back in the camera and see if the error message is gone.

If the message remains turn off the camera switch to 'Setup', then turn the camera on. The 'C:13:01' error should disappear. At this point, quickly format the memory stick using the camera's format feature.

I'm sorry, in my last message, I was only able to see your very first message posted on 1st.

I suspect the issue is a hardware problem, as the error code is related to memory, and your unable to switch to video mode. But photo mode works? that goes to a memory stick or a memory card?

Does the hard drive appear to be working? can you plug it to a computer and can you get content from the hard drive?

Had a small mistype there -" I suspect the issue is a hardware problem " what I ment was - a hard drive problem.

First of all, press RESET button located under LCD housing, pull out LCD and press RESET button there to set camcorder on default settings.
If that does not fix problem then camcorder requires to replace Switch Control block (it includes power switch on-off dial too) by qualified camera tech.
I can provide you required part number and where it is available info, if need that.
    Thanks.

Sony Handycam DCR-DVD 610 - Camera cannot use battery error even though battery is not plugged in the camera

They need the batteries in them for all functions and generally there are two. One is the main battery that you recharge and can swap out if you do a lot of filming. The second one is a small coin cell that holds the memory when the main battery is removed. It is the same as the CMOS battery in a computer.

Both batteries need to be inside the Camcorder and charged.

The starter won't completely turn over even though

Sometimes on the Briggs and Kohler engines, the compression release fails to operate at the proper time or is malfunctioning. A remedy for this is to remove the valve cover(s) and adjust the OH valves per the manufacturers specifications. This enables much easier starting, produces less wear and tear on the starter and may allow your new battery to completely turn that engine over. Out of adjustment valves mimic a weak or failing battery quite well and the engine hangs up on the compression stroke because the compression release system is not working properly. Adjust those darn valves.

Camera will not turn on even though battery is charged

your new batteries may be worn out to the point that they won't accept a charge, but the problem you describe is frequently due to corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera. Remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a clean cloth (heavy corrosion buildups may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment, clean the contacts at both ends of the batteries, and reinstall them in the camera.

thanks

All of a sudden the speaker on my camcorder is not working even though the volume is turned up

This sounds like the camera has been put on ear-plug setting, see if you can hear with that, if nothing heard you have a sound card gone.

Sony handycam video hi8

Take the battery out and turn selection switch to camera and then turn it off. Put the battery back in and its working again.
if that doesn't work try
Try smacking the side of the camera relatively hard with the palm of your hand. Eject the tape and reinsert. You may need to do this a couple of times.
good luck
