Shut down Unit usually cuts out after only a few seconds of operation.  After a number of retries, it sometimes continues as programmed.

Unit begins to process but shuts off after 5 seconds. Other functions seem to work.

  • charles1358 Jan 07, 2008

at any selection, either popcorn or time cook the unit shuts down only after running for 2-3 seconds. The door switch seems ok and the unit display is ok. No errors are displayed on display section.

I have a Panasonic 1300w Genious, model NN-T790SA, and it's works for five second and shut down.

  • fluffy1 Jan 22, 2008

have same problem. panasonic tech support recommended circuit breaker off and then on. tries to work again, about 3 seconds and shuts off. clock and lights stay on correctly. this is just out of 5 year warranty.

Had the same problem and replaced the magnetron with a new one from Panasonic. It worked a few weeks and now the same thing happens again! There is a sparking/crackling noise that takes place after three seconds but stops if the oven stays on.

  • 1fastneonrt Mar 06, 2008

I have this same problem. It will run for about 3 seconds with a quick crackling noise and then just die, while still suppling power to the front panel. I have reason to believe that it is the power relay (RY1) that is causing this problem. This relay is what tells the inverter to turn on and if bad will cause the microwave to think that the inverter is bad and shut down.

Had the same problem.
service store replaced the magnetron. $50 to replace. New ones at target were $50 (in california).

it's a 5-year warranty. Note that if you no longer have the
original invoice, there is a tag on the inside of the door edge (to the right) with the mfg date which is good enough to prove date of purchase within 5 years.

In most cases, this is a problem with the inverter or a bad magnetron.

Due to the lethal voltages used and produced, I do not recommend that an inexperienced person work on these.

I would recommend that you contact your nearest Panasonic-authorized servicer. You can find one here:

THE THERMAL OVEN WORKS SOMETIMES

FOllow this test and fix it. God bless you

  1. Main control boardIf your microwave runs for a few seconds and stops, the first thing to check is the main control board to ensure that a shortage has not occurred. If the part is defective then it will need to be replaced to prevent continual shut offs. If this is not the issue, the next step would be to check for a faulty touchpad.
  2. Touchpad/Control panelIf the control board is not the issue and your microwave continues to shut off after running for only a few seconds, the next thing to check is your touchpad, which is also known as a control panel. Although uncommon for this issue, symptoms are usually that the display and some buttons are working properly; however, when selected some buttons are not functioning. If this is the case the touchpad will need to be replaced.

Emerson microwave model #mwg91111sl shut off during use. It did not trip home breaker. It appears dead. It has shut down temporarily 2x in the past year, but came back and operated normally. This time...

You need an ohm meter. This is probably a magnetron that is overheating. Sometimes a vent can get blocked by a curtain or something similar that gets pulled to the unit when the fan is running, or a bad or slow cooling fan can cause this or a bad magnetron. Be sure to short the high voltage capacitor before you do anything else in there. There should be a thermal fuse on or near the magnetron. Some units have a self resetting 'TCO' or thermal cut out. Some have a one time fuse. Some TCO's fail to reset after cycling a few times. These are usually a 'disc' type and are round , usually about the size (diameter) of a nickle and about 1/2" tall. Check for continuity, you should have zero ohms or resistance.

Cuts out everytime you put food in, any mode any food, then displays sensor on panel displayed. May run for a few seconds then cuts again Rob.

Hi there,

It could be either the magnetron thermostat or the cavity thermostat would be faulty, depending on the microwave but in most cases it would be a thermostat.
First of all you can try cutting the power to the unit for 5 minutes, then retry it.
Call 800-626-2005 GE costumer care You will probably need to provide your serial number when you call so be sure you have that ready.

Good Luck!!

Thanks

No matter what time i put in it cuts off in 60 seconds on a sharp

This sounds like a bad damper switch or motor. Double check the shut off time....... see if it's actually 59 seconds..
When you unplug the unit from the wall for 2 minutes then plug it bad in, you should be able to faintly hear a motor run for a few seconds. This is the damper motor running. This will verify that the motor is operating.....
Also, check the thermistor.

Ran on power for 10 minutes, thought it was on timer.

First, check the fuse usually located above the display, inside the top lid.  You can't see if it's blown, so you must test it for continuity with a meter or self powered test light.  Usually fifteen amp, and of the ceramic variety.  (available at radio shack type places) If the new one blows instantly, it's likely a door switch shorted out.  If it blows after a few seconds, it could be the magnetron gone bad, or internal arcing.  The main transformer will sometimes short out, but that's rare.   Be absolutely careful, should your fingers venture around the magnatron connections down below, as there is high voltage and current that can kill you.  This warning applies even when it's unplugged!
The door switches operate together, so if one slams the door shut it will often blow the fuse with no other damage.  Sometimes the crow-bar switch will sustain damage in the process.  Usually, if the switches click individually, they're good.  If one doesn't click, it'll almost always be shorted.  They're located behind the door catch, inside the unit beside the display board, and a bit hard to access.  You will need to reach past the magnatron for this, so be careful.
