Question about Xerox DOCUMATE 510 Flatbed Scanner

Documate 510 scanner ADF problem

We have a couple Documate 510 scanners with ADF. One gets used light to medium. It has been developing a problem where the paper jams when fed via the ADF. Occasionally it will make a grinding sound, almost like one of the internal gears is stripping.

When this problem first manifested itself, the paper simply jammed. Cleaning the rollers and changing the paper pickup pad seemed to fix it, but now the problem seems more severe.

Are there parts available for this scanner or a service manual? The scanner is not really built too well, but I'd rather try to get the scanner fixed rather than junking it.

    paper feeds to the left, jamming the paper and making the same grinding sound..may or may not repeat itself immediately.

    It's not the separation pad that needs replacing. It is not that. It is a gear inside the ADF that has stripped or become worn. The rollers are in good shape too.

    I've had the Documate 510 for about 16 months... used lightly, primarily for scanning documents to PDF format for emailing. Suddenly the document feeder won't work... doesn't initiate feeding the douments. I have to turn scanner off to unlock the paperport program. The scanner works fine as a flatbed scanner... just annoying to have to scan each sheet by hand. Is the autodocument feeder repairable?

    I have the same problem. "gear grinding" noise. Paper feeds just about 1 inch into the ADF then Jams. The paper path is clear, "no obsturctions". Just stopped feeding and jams on every attempt

Check out visioneer.com they have compatible adf replacement pads. There is not a replacement part for the roller though.

Is there a mac driver for xerox documate 510?


The short answer is no. Very frustrating. For three years they have promised to develop it and now have chosen to discontinue any support for the 510 and instead tell you to spend several thousand dollars for a new Documate 3220 scanner.

Issue installing xerox documate 510 scanner using windows vista

I called Xerox and the technician told me the ADF cable was loose. I went home readjusted the ADF cable and now it works like a champ.

Documate 510 Roller Pad Assembly


Hi, I don't know if it's permissible to advertise but we currently sell the assembly for the Xerox Documate scanners. As far as I know the scanner's discontinued, and the pads are getting pricey so consider how much longer you want to wait before replacing the scanner.

Problem with the adf documate 510


Check the adf pad assembly. It is the small grey pad inside the top cover. One replacement pad should have come with your scanner. Mine was doing the same thing, when I replaced the pad, it worked like new.

Xerox 510 will not scan from ADF


If it is new, and not assuming there is a hardware problem with the scanner (some fault), might be a software problem. If the scanned image from the flabed is OK the drivers would be installed properly. You do not say which software you are using but when you have a "Professional" documentscanner and intend to use it for "production" scanning you need proper software also, To scan, to mix documents, rearrange pages, auto remove blank pages, deskew, produce small PDFs even when scanning color and so on. Look at PixEdit - it will do the job for you.

Step 1 - Verify the scanner's power and connection

  1. Verify that the scanner is turnned on
  2. If the Check or Ready light on the scanner is flashing, click VIS1023 - Check Light Blinking on ADF Scanner for more information
  3. Check that the USB cable is connected to both the scanner and the computer
    • It is recommended that the scanner be connected directly to the back of your computer with a 6 foot or shorter USB cable
Step 2 - Redetect the scanner in device manager
  1. Turn the scanner off
  2. Click Here and select "Run" or "Open"
  3. The Windows Device Manager will open
  4. Go to "View" and choose "Show Hidden Devices"
  5. Click the "+" next to "Imaging Devices". This will show all Imaging Devices previously and currently connected to the computer.
  6. If listed, right-click on the DocuMate 510 then left click on "Uninstall"
  7. If asked to confirm the uninstall, click "OK"
  8. If the scanner is listed more than one time, uninstall ALL occurrences of the scanner
  9. IF you see "?Other Devices" in the device manager list, click on the "+" to view the list of Other Devices
  10. Right click on any instince of the scanner in this list then left click on "Uninstall"
    The scanner may be listed as any of the following:
    • USB Scanner
    • USB Device
    • Unknown Device
    • DocuMate 510
  11. Once the scanner has been completely removed from Device Manager, turn the scanner back on
If there is no Found New Hardware message when the scanner is turned back on and the scanner is not listed in Device Manager under Imaging Devices or Other Devices, this typically means the scanner is not communicating correctly with the computer. Try plugging the scanner into a different USB port or using a different USB cable.
