Re: heater

It is possible that your thermocouple is defective. It must get satisfaction from the pilot to enable the valve to work. If it does not light at all you may check your gas supply or your orfice is plugged or your gas valve is defective.

Re: heater

You are missing a few numbers in the model number so I am unable to research it. You may have a 30 or 50 in fromt of the HXB or something like that.

Get back to us with an exact model number.

Typically there is a safety device directly above the pilot light that must be up to temp for the gas to flow. You did not specify if the pilot is lit. If not, hold the lighter at the pilot light while depressing the button for one minute. This allows the sensor to warm to operating temp, thus allowing gas flow. Once pilot is lit adjust the temperature accordingly.

Furnance on but wont blow heat. dont know anything about furnaces. in the middel of a blizzard with dropping temps. Not sure where or if pilot light is on.

Observe if the pilot light is on(in the burner) and see if the thermostat is pointing to the right setting and lastly see if the gas valve is in open position.

Our Whirpool Gas water heater is leaking from one of the top water supply lines and the pilot went out. we tried to light it back on and it does not. before we can replace the leak should we continue to...

first repair the leak then remove the burner assembaly at the end of the pilot tube you will find a small orfice were the gas comes out for the pilot remove that and be sure it is free from debri and not clogged replace it when the burner assembaly is back in place and reconnected try to light the pilot if it still wont light as you are trying to light the pilot tap the side of the gas control valve (somewhat hard) if it then lights you know you have a bad gas valve if you are getting gas through the pilot orfice (not air if you have recently disconected the gas supply) and it seems to be blowing to hard you will need to replace the pilot assembaly at the end of the orfice as the small sheild also helps make the gas air mixture

Short answer, yes. However you could have another problem. Replace the thermocouple that keeps the pilot lit. You can get a universal one at any good hardware or farm store. Make sure the new thermocouple is well into the pilot flame. If the blower knocks out the pilot flame again, I would be suspecting cross contamination from a crack in the heat exchanger. As the exchanger heats up, it may be causing a small crack to open and allows the blower to extinguish the flame. It may also be causing a leak of Carbon Monoxide into the heated room air. I would get it checked out very quickly.

Rheem gas valve for furnance

It is intentional. It's a slow close valve. There is no adjustment. You can usually replace it with an instant open/close valve.

The heater in my central heating is not getting turn on but the fresh air and cooling is getting turn on

Check the pilot light.Older standing pilot systems use thermocouples to verify the pilot is burning before the gas valve opens. If the pilot wont stay lit replace the thermocouple.
Newer systems light the pilot. On a call for heat the igniter lights the pilot. When the heat is verified the gas valve opens . Some systems use an circuit board with flashing led lights to help troubleshooting.

Make sure that you are holding down the button long enough to heat up the thermocouple before you let go . The thermocouple needs to be hot enough to signal the presence of flame or the gas valve will stop sending gas to the pilot. If you are letting it get hot, but still have the same problem, the unit may have a bad thermocouple. This is the thin copper tube that goes from the gas valve to the pilot.

I have an old gas heater when i go to light it the piolet light wont stay on when i turn the knob to make it hotter.

Old heaters that have a "standing" pilot light that burns all of the time use a device called a thermocouple. The thermocouple sits in the flame of the pilot and when heated by the pilot, produces a very small amount of electricity (approx 30 mV) which the heater interperets as proof that the pilot is burning and indicating that it is okay to turn the main burner on. The thermocouple is a part that wears out and when it fails causes the exact problem that you are describing.
