I have the Kenmore Elite HE2 Front loading washing machine. I keep the door open in between washings. but still there is a smell.Some of my clothes have a mildew odor I cannot seem to get out.Someone on this page said take off the front lower panel. Can you explain what's going on and how to fix this.

Hi. inside the door seal is a lip that will grow mold or some kind of soap scum that turns black. pull back the edge of the door seal and wipe out with spray bleach ( wear gloves ). Leave the door open a little when you are done using it and that will help to let it dry inside.

keep door open after you use it....keep them open until you use it again.... door can be opened just a little, but can not be closed

let machine work once with highest temperature without anything inside..... with little detergent you always use.....to wash away that smell...

if you keep it closed, then moisture will remain in and provide good environment to bacteria causing black mold to live there.....

you can remove that only mechanically..... take some old dry dampcloth and wipe it away.... it will take some time and hard work.:)

try to change the rubber around the door opening this will take care on the odor also try using the afrsh washer cleaner and use a double dose 2 tablets

Whirlpool-made Front Loading such as the Kenmore Elite washing machines use a door lock and switch assembly having a tab that can be pulled manually for emergency opening of the door. This tab can be accessed with the removal of the lower front access panel. Disconnect power to the washer and drain the water from the tub before accessing it. This is a comin in all front loaders. It it caused by two things not using HE soap and keeping the door closed when not using it. The only way to get rid of the smell is to run 3 to 5 cycles with bleach and no clothes or use a washer cleaner. Most large hardware stores carry them. Once the smell is gone be sure to leave the door open when you are not using it and wipe out the gray boot(gasket/seal) after using.

Run a cycle ,no clothes in, with about 3 cups/ 750 ml of bleach in it. How? put a fil a plisticbag with the bleach and set it in the washer. It will tip up when you start the cycle. You should end up with a clean washer and clean empty bag.

Make shure to do a cleaning cycle. As well, wipe out the inside, the rubber gasket and the door when done washing for the day. We also have found that
leaving the door "Open" for several hours, when finnished, eliminates any future
smells.

You are probably using too much soap and softner. You only need about 1 Tablespoon of each for a full load with a front load machine. Run it with nothing it in except bleach. If you see bubbles inside that means there's left over soap in the tub. Keep running it empty (with bleach) until you don't see bubbles anymore then start using less soap.
