Rca turns itself off and on and scans thru all the channels
RCA 32V434T TV Turns itself on and off, changes channel and volume by
itself. Frquency of off and on is as many as 20 times in 5 minutes. I
even removed the batteries from the remote to make sure it wasn't the

- thank you, i just meant that oddly nothing happened, from the time the tv was functioning and when it starting acting possessed...its odd, and its not like it is old. agreed the components seem screwed, was hoping there was a reset button.Sep 02, 2009
- is there a way to just bypass those "switches" or disconnect them.Sep 02, 2009

I have an easier solution, First I want to thank those who posted the solution that the problem is on the small switch board mounted right behind the switches under the picture tube. I figured that might be where the problem was but it's better to to see it confirmed. I thought the problem was more complex like maybe an IC chip got zapped or something but there are none on that board. Only 6 switches, the infared sensor, 1 capacitor and some resistors. I am convinced that in my case at least the problem is caused by humidity. It happened last year constantly durring humid weather in the summer and only a couple of times over the winter when the air is dry and cooler. I did figure an easier way to disconnect all the switches without unsoldering. After you remove the board, flip it over to the solder side and see where the wires connect. You will see them labled GND - KEY - +5 v - LED and IR. The one you want is labled KEY. You will see on the other side this wire is second from the end . Just separate the wires a bit and cut it. That's it. Just be sure it is the one marked KEY. This wire goes thru a series of resistors and the switches and nothing else. Just cut that one wire and put a piece of tape over the cut ends and thats it. it's a lot easier then unsoldering all 6 switches. And if you do decide at some point later to replace the switches, it's easy to resolder the wires and tape it. I did it this way and my TV is working perfect. I was done in ten minutes. You can only control the TV with the remote but so what, thats all we use 95% of the time anyway. I hope this helped you.

I have seen this before, it is the buttons in the front of the set, when cleaning the screen, if you let windex drip down the screen it will seep into the set and onto the switch board causing corrosion and this issue. You need to replace all the little switches on the board.

- I did not mean to accuse you of any wrong doing, but i have been a professional tv repair man over 20 years, and the problem you are describing are leaking dome switches, from either liquid on the board or a host of other isseus can cause the switches to malfunction. Either way it usaly is the swithboard causeing this isseueSep 01, 2009
- These issues can show up fast, it doesn't need to be a long process. Sep 02, 2009
- Not realy, if you disconenct the board that the switches are on you will remove the remote sensor. But if you are handy with a soldering iron you can remove each switch from the board, that will remove the problem. But you will not beable to operate the tv from the panel switches.

Ok guys, I found a better way to repair this problem. I have the same exact tv a RCA 32V432T and I have to say it has a great picture but the tv is a piece of junk. The front control buttons in the front of the set are those small micro switches which are used on many other things other then a tv. These switches are very easly affected by moisture, dust which turns static after a while and have a strong tendency to short out. I removed the panel and cleaned it with electro-motor cleaner and then blew them off with just plain air. The cleaner will evaporate in a few minutes but let it stand for about 20 minutes before you put it back in.. Now heres the sneeky part...take a small pair of needle nose pliars and carefully turn the black button about 180 degrees or more on each button , I believe there were 7 of them. By turning them it moves the position of the contacts in the button and disturbs the dust or what ever is causing the problem in the switch. The only other solution is replace the switch. My set is about 2 years old and there was a lot of dust inside the set which gets into those control buttons. Besides the dust , I agree with a earlier post that said windex runs down on them when you clean the screen and can get into the switch. So there could be a lot of **** inside the button , by turning it inside itself kind of gives it a fresh start. I have ran into this problem with the same switches on machinery , such as milling machines and lathes , computers etc. A simple turning the little back button 180 degrees seems to work excellent. I did this to my tv and now it works perfect by the buttons and remote. It just seems probmatic to me cut the wire marked "KEY" and not have use of the buttons anymore. So remove your panel and clean it real good with any good electric cleaners CRC makes it. I also have used brake cleaner which is the same stuff which is 111 tryethlene , try not to breath too much of that stuff it can cause throat cancer. Do it outside and keep it off you , wear gloves if you have them,. This worked for me so you may give it a try before cutting the Wire "KEY" . Hope this helps out .

My TV recently started to turn itself on and scan through the channels. It is the TV channels not the cable. It will also scan through channels when we are watching a program on cable also. We tried moving the remotes to see if it is an IR problem, but hasn't helped. We had a neighbor move in upstairs at the same time this started-not sure if there is a connection.
