GE XL44 Oven Temperature Issue

Oven does not reach set point. For example, when set to 475F, display shows increse in oven temperature to about 430F. We have had several recent incidents where is was clear that the baked goods did not reach temperature (did not rise). Oven has also shut off on it's own a few times. Age is 4 years old, single owner and never moved since installed.

Recently discovered that while the display claims the oven is at 350 degrees, the actual temperature is only 265. Inherited this appliance when we moved into a home 3 months ago.

We have the same problem and we replaced the ignitor about 6 months ago. We just started to have this problem recently. The oven does not reach the temperature we set it to.

I have same problem. When using an oven therometer, the set temperature vs. actual temperature inside the oven is 100 degs higher than actual. Is it the thermostat, sensor or control unit? Any solutions?

I have the same problem. Tonight, I set the oven bake temperature to 450 which it gets to, however, the burner shut off and the temperature decreases. The temp then dropped to 300 degrees. The only way I could fix it was to reset the temp to 550 degrees which slowly raised the temp. Not the best way to cook food!

My GE XL44 Self-Cleaning Gas oven heats up but is about 125-130 degrees cooler than what it is set for.

To Adjust the Thermostat

  1. Touch the BROIL HI/LO and BAKE pads at the same time for 3 seconds until the display shows SF.
  2. Touch the BAKE pad. A two digit number shows in the display.
  3. Touch BAKE again to alternate between increasing and decreasing the oven temperature.
  4. The oven temperature can be adjusted up to (+) 35°F (19°C) hotter or (-) 35°F (19°C) cooler. Touch the number pads the same way you read them. For example, to change the oven temperature 15°F (8°C), touch 1 and 5.
  5. When you have made the adjustment, touch the START pad to go back to the time of day display. Use your oven as you would normally.

My GE double oven displays a message to set probe. When I press probe it prompts me to input a code (3 dashes)? Can you provide via e-mail what numbers can be used to set probe?

It is asking for the temperature that you want the meat to be. Example if you want your meat to have a medium doneness then usually it is 150F. You would enter 150. The probe will beep when the meat has reached that temperature

Temp of oven did not go over 350 when it was set at 380,,,was cooking fried chicken spectra xl44

Probably the RTD is going bad. That is a resistive temperature device. It changes resistance over temp and feeds a voltage back to the oven controller telling it that the oven set temp has been reached. If you are not reaching your temperature then I would suspect the RTD.

How do I calibrate the oven temp?

Oven Temperature Adjustment Option for the MSG5770
If you think the oven should be hotter or cooler, you can adjust
it yourself. To decide how much to change the oven temperature,
set the temperature 25°F higher or lower than the temperature
in your recipe, then bake. The results of the “test” should
give you an idea of how much to adjust the temperature.
To adjust the oven temperature:
1. Press the BAKE pad.
2. Enter 550° by pressing the number pads “5, 5, 0”.
3. Press and hold the BAKE pad for several seconds until 0°
appears in the display.
4. Press any number pad to change the temperature. Each time
a pad is pressed, the temperature changes by 5°F.
• Press repeatedly to reach +35°F. Continue pressing
to reduce the temperature up to -35°F.
• If the oven temperature was previously adjusted, the
change will be displayed. For example, if the oven
temperature was reduced by 15°, the display will
show -15°.
5. When you have made the adjustment, press the
CANCEL pad and the time of day will reappear in the
display. The oven will now bake at the adjusted
temperature.
NOTE: Do not change the temperature setting more than
10° at a time before testing the oven.
It is not necessary to readjust the oven temperature if there
is a power interruption. This adjustment will not affect
broil or clean temperatures.
