External speakers can be connected to the earphone jack,BUT remember the computer output is only designed to power earphones not big speakers. The speakers have to have an amp built in, like some desktop speakers. Also if you use an adapter to connect the speakers, you MUST make sure the grounds and output wires are matched correctly or you will fry the computers audio board or worse.
Yes, by the why you have expained it that would be how it is done. Connect the four wires (2 will be left side etc., make sure you dont splice the ground from the right side to the positive of the left), of the earphone jack to the four wires coming from the audio input cables. Just make sure the none of the wires are touching each other. You may be able to find an adaptor that has an earphone jack on one end and RCA plugs on the other at a electronics store. That would be the easiest and safest. Didnt understand you wiring setup the first time.

These speakers have an amplifier. The speaker outputs are yellow (video) green and red (audio). Can I splice the green and red to the red and white connectors of the rca cable? The mini plugs look the same on both cables.
This does not tell me how to hook the speakers up.
I have found an adapter with rca connections on one side and mini connections on the other which I think will work.
