Baby oil in nintendo ds touch screen

Hi, you will most probably need to replace touch screen. Buy new 1 from ebay about 2 quid and a tri-wing screwdriver to take apart console. Youtube videos how to replace touch screen and follow video step by step. Not at all hard to do just make sure you don't break the black clip off the board that holds the ribbon cable for the touch screen, can be write fiddly. Magnifying glass will help and small tweezers.

How do I replace a DS Lite top screen? Any special tools needed? Thanks.

You have to take the whole ds apart to replace the top screen its not the easiest one of the screens to replace.

I'll start assuming you have dissasembled the bottem half of the ds but it is still attached. Once the logic board and bottem screen have been removed you are left with just the plastic where the buttons are, still looking at the ds as if you looking at the back of it, on the top left you will see two screws these have to be undone, you will need a small philips screw driver, once undone the two pieces should come apart, becarefull of the wires on the right, thread them back through the hole, and there is a slight cut in the plastic allowing you to thread the ribbon cable out as well.
When you have just the top half, turn it so the speakers are facing you as if you playing on it, there are four philips screws to undo, but they are coverd by small rubber gromets, you will have to prise them out using somthing pointed like the end of a stanley blade, becareful not to scratch the plastic. Once the screws are all out hold with both hands with your thumbs where the speakers are, apply a bit of presure in a downward and towards you motion the two parts should slide away from each other, you will see a gap at the top, turn the whole thing over again and lift the top half up and away from you exposeing the top screen and speakers, attached to the black wire is the wirless receiver which you dont need to touch and the white wire is the mic. Thread the ribbon cable back through the hinge by rolling it up and it should go through. You will need to desolder the speakers from the ribbon cable attached to the screen(ensure u note which way the wires are soldered so you can resolder them on properly to the new screen). Once thats done put it all back together the way you took it apart.

There is videos on how to do this in more detail on youtube just do a search and you will find what you are looking for.

Tools needed:

Tri-wing screw driver
Small philips screw driver or pozy drive
Pointed object(stanley blade)
Pair of twizzers

Hope this helps. post back if you have problems and ill try to run you through them.

Bottom screen

a wire has disconnected, you have to take ds apart again (not fully) just so you have access to motherboard with black and white wires showing. look to where the black wire is fixed on and below that to the edge of the board you will see a tiny piece of see-through plastic with black lines through it, (mine had come loose and i had fastened ds up whilst it was curved underneath board). you should also see there a slot approx 2mm at most with 3 / 4 bronze/gold prongs ( very much like smaller version of the large wide wires and slots they fasten into) you dont have to flip anything up to get this wire in or out, just slot in carefully (i used tweezers) as far as will go, making sure you dont disturb placement of any other wires. now put shell back on and before you put screws in just switch ds on to see if problem is solved. hopefully ! mine worked fine after this.

Touch screen doesn't light up

Your problem is with the LCD behind the touch screen. The bottom scren on your DS is actually two screens. An LCD and a touch screen on top of it. Either your cable has come loose inside the DS or the LCD is possibly bad. This can be fixed.

The other option is that the electronics feeding the LCD have gone bad in which case you might as well buy a new DS. But check the screen first.

If the DS is under a year old you can send it to Nintendo for free repair.

Bottom screen scrambled on nintendo ds lite

This option is only suitable for out of warranty devices as opening it violates the warranty.

Open the device following this info:
How to dismantle an Original Nintendo DS.

If yours is the NDS Lite, just find this video in youtube:
"Disassembling Nintendo DS Lite"

The bottom screens have 2 wrap wires, one big and visible, that is the screen cable, the other is small and not so obvious and this one is for the touch screen and you dont want to get it broken.

The cable connectors release the cable by lifting ot pulling the brown or black lock and be sure to remember how it was connected so you can know the right position of the cable when connected right not having any problem with loosen cables before you finish.

Good Luck...
