These amps have a problem with broken shield connections on the RCA jacks. If the shield breaks loose from the frame of the RCA jack, you will have this problem. If you disconnect the amp from power and pull the cover, you can check to see if the shield is loose in the frame. if it is, it needs to be soldered.

You can also have this problem if the shield ground opens on the head unit.

    Which transistors (Rxxx?)?

  • Perry Babin Dec 10, 2007

If those diodes are shorted, it could cause noise problems.

The part number is ES2D. They are diodes.
    Available at Mouser.

Generally, one of the two diodes is burned when the chassis ground is lost or intermittent. The other one will fail when a power source comes into contact with the RCA cable shields. This generally damages the head unit also. It's VERY rare for both to burn.

It's possible that changing them will solve the problem but there's a good chance that there are other problems.

If you decide to work on this amplifier, do not remove it from the heatsink. There is a tiny LED in the center of the large capacitors. If it is lit, do not touch anything inside of the amp. It will remain lit until the main filter capacitors are discharged.

Of course, you need to remove the power source from the amp whenever you're working inside the amp.

If the only problem is the burned diodes, most any reputable shop should be able to repair it.

If you get the amp repaired, be very careful reinstalling it. The output transistors are essentially unavailable. If you make a mistake when reinstalling it, the amplifier won't be repairable.

I don't know if the diodes are available locally. If you order from Mouser, you'll probably receive them within a few days.

I don't know if you can replace them. It should be a simple repair but if the traces are damaged it could take a bit more time. You'll need a good soldering iron to remove and replace the diodes.

Airplane sound comes from car audio system speakers only when I turn the radio on.

this sounds like you may have a bad alternator or radio was install wrong.the alternator has a built in condensor to stop the back feed into radio,

I would make sure the radio is installed correctly first, all it takes is a wrong wire in the wrong spot to cause this type of problem, another thing that causes this is if you have an amp connected, the amp must be wired correctly, make sure there is a good ground a soild ground close to amp and power is coming from battery to feed amp and not from fuse box.

I have a 2001 Chrysler T & C Limited. My tilt broke and tried to repair it. Finally located a whole new steering column (couldn't just replace a part.) When it was all back together everything...

If the clock goes out with the hiccup the radio system is losing total power. Have you had the radio tested??If you have & without being there to help I would check the wires in the column first. Could be a short in the steering wheel radio control or ingition switch. I figure you have them with power everything. I always check to see if proper voltage is being suppied to the connector. Check the counnector on the window & hatch motor first. If you want to post back I give you a hand solving the glitches. I have a 03 GC ES LOADED.

He may be right! You might try finding a new source of contact for your ground cause it may not be sufficent enough to ground to, also make sure that no wires from the back of your radio have any wires sticking out touching other interfering things that could possibly be causing the noise

Mtx 1501d no sound

There are a number of things that can cause it to act as you described. Have you pulled the covers off of it yet to see if you can see any problems?

If you do, disconnect power from it and don't touch ANYTHING on the board when ANY of the 3 LEDs (2 are not visible from the outside) are lit.
