Question about Akai PTH5498 54" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Blue color Have no blue color in picture. went into convegence service mode 1-8-3 and the blue gun does not show up. Called a TV repair shop was told the crt was known on as he called it "cheap models" to grow algae and wanted $275 + tax to repair if brought in to his shop. Is there any way to fix this cheaper, or do I need to buy a new 1080p tv?

Forgot to state that the blue does show up on convergence menu 1-8-3 but is very fuzzy and the grid cannot be seen.

TOshiba 36A41 CRTTV has a color problem, i can not see the color Blue.

If it got like that gradually suspect a low emission condition on the Blue gun inside the picture tube, this condition can sometimes be fixed by running a gun cleaning procedure, this is done with a crt analyser device at a repair shop. The other cause for a no blue picture could be a Blue color output that has stopped working, the loss of blue is suddendly when the color out fails, it could also be a problem in the signalprocesing circuit. I suggest having it checked by a tech because it would be something you could not check, first because of lack of equippment and second, you would need some technical troubleshooting skills to do the job.

TV COLOR WENT BROWN IN COLOR

It could not be the playstation that would cause the fault. The set was probably going to fail anyways.

A brown casted picture sounds like there is a loss of the blue colour drive in the set.

Some TV sets have colour temperature adjustments in the user menu. Check to see if your TV has that option, and that the colour temperature is properly set up. You can refer to the TV's instruction booklet for details.

A loss of blue drive can be from failed components in the video path, or in the bias circuits that control the CRT's cathold current.

It is also possible that the CRT is going defective, and is losing emission from the blue colour electron-gun.

You will have to bring the set to a service center that has an experienced TV tech who can make proper diagnostics, and give you an estimate for the cost of repair.

Blurry Images

Hello paulaspec,

You have a problem with the three factors, and they are screen voltage, focus voltage, and control (focus 2) voltage. Basically these voltages have to be adjusted since the components in this section have aged some. These controls are usually located in the television on the IHVT (Integrated High Voltage Transformer) or as it is also called the flyback transformer. these controls must be adjusted together, along with the color controls. Here is how the adjustment is done (You will need a schematic diagram, a DC volt meter, and a color bar generator to do these measurments):

1) turn color and tint fully counter clockwise until you have a black and white picture.

2) connect the color bar generator to the TV (ch 3) and turn it on, you should see bars in various shades of gray

3) adjust as best as possible the color and tint controls to obtain the color bars on the screen Red Green Blue.

4) measure the voltages on the focus, screen and control grids of the CRT and match them to the schematic digram measurements.

5) adjust the focus screen and control grids to match the ones on the schematic diagram

6) once this is done then you adjust the color controls once again to obtain the red green and blue bars on the TV screen.

This should help if the CRT (picture tube) electron guns are still good and if the flyback transformer voltage supply is working.

However if you do not have a background in electronics please take the TV to a shop for repairs.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

Shuttle83

Broken Electron Gun?

Pls do not jump to hasty conclusions! 'Electron guns'do not break! It could be a simple problem like a faulty CRT base! Or perhaps the Blue Output Transistor is faulty! First ask a good technician to have a look. If he confirms that the Blue Cathode is faulty, then I advise that you get a new set.
