What part opens the gas valve in a gas dryer? I'm thinking the electric mechanism that triggers the gas valve to open. Is it the gas valve solenoid?

Not real clear on the "beep" sound but the hum is most likely the electric coil on the gas valve. If the unit is functioning properly and there is not smell of gas, the only way to resolve the noise is to replace the gas valve assembly.

Hello,

The gas coils have failed. These are the two round devices on the gas valve. You would need to open the dryer to access and replace the gas valves. Every make and model is different.

With the model number I would be able to better assist you.

Makes a humming nose when you press start

Hi,

Gas Dryers may produce buzz when the solenoid opens. The valve clicks at the start of the heat cycle, start of ignition and when the burner turns off. The flame makes a low roaring sound.

Make sure nothing is loose inside the drum. Check all exposed screws, and make sure they are tight.

Make sure dryer is level on the floor, and that nothing is leaning against the dryer.

Check for foreign objects in the drum. (Coins, buttons and zippers will make a rattling sound as they roll around in the drum)

Good Luck and have a nice day
Rating the solution is highly appreciated

Frigidaire sensor gas dryer will not turn on, power supply and breakers ok, Makes a noise like it wants to turn on. Drum is free and moveable.

if you can move the drum by hand and it's humming it sounds like you have a bad motor or the belt broke and is jamming the motor and that's why the drum moves, you have to get in there and check it out, open the door and the model number should be there, next time send model number

Gas dryer works, but does not heat

Hello there:
here is a discriptive way of trouble shooting the dryer and it lists the common components that will normally fail if the element has not failed first
Gas Dryer Diagnosticsgasdryerguts.gifThis picture shows the main parts of a gas dryer's burner systemthat can fail. Understanding each component and it's failure mode canreally help diagnose a problem with a gas dryer.
Ignitor failure: The drum turns but the igniter doesn't glow, thereis no clacking sound as the gas valves open and there is no flameignition sound.
Radiant Sensor failure: The drum turns but the igniter doesn't glow, there is no clacking sound as the gas valves open and there is no flameignition sound.
Gas Valve Solenoid failure: The drum turns and the igniter glows andgets turned off but there is no clacking sound as the gas valves openand there is no flame ignition sound.
And another component failure to be aware of, but that's not shown here, is the operating thermostat:
Operating Thermostat failure: The drum turns but the igniter doesn'tglow, the gas valves don't open (there is no clacking sound) and thereis no flame ignition sound.
And here's a picture of other components to ohm out if you're getting no heating at all:

My Fridigidaire gasdryer will heat up for the first part of cycle

It sounds like the coil valves are not continuing to open.

If you can get the dryer open, (unit UNPLUGGED of course) you will see that the gas valve has two black cylinders on top of it with wires coming out. Electricity magnetizes these and that magnet is what opens the gas valve so that the dryer can heat. When they get old, the electricity starts to heat them up, and they stop working. You end up with a dryer that will heat up for the first 2 minutes of a load, and then stop heating.

The coils are very easy to replace, and are usually held in with a small bent metal plate and two phillips screws. Removing this plate and the coils doesn't interfere with the gas plumbing, but if turning the gas off makes you feel better, go ahead.

I'm not sure if those are the ones for your model or not, but that is what they will look like. Check the model number on the sticker inside the door to make sure you get the right ones. Be sure to get the kit of 2.

Dryer not heating

  • There are two house circuits/fuses in an electric dryer's circuit.
If one of them is tripped/blown, the drum may turn, but the heater will not operate. Reset the circuit breaker or replace the house fuse.
  • Outlet wired incorrectly.
Have a qualified electrician verify that the supply voltage is correct.
  • Gas supply valve to a gas dryer is not open.
Open the gas supply valve. See Installation Instructions for details.
  • LP gas supply tank is empty or there has been a utility interruption of natural gas.
Refill or replace the LP tank. Call your natural gas utility company.
  • Dryer does not have enough air supply to support the gas burner.
The dryer needs space around it for proper ventilation. Do not stack or place laundry or throw rugs against the front or back of the dryer. See Installation Instructions for details about installing a dryer in a closet or alcove.
  • Incorrect cycle or temperature has been selected.
If the Air Fluff cycle or temperature is selected, the dryer will tumble without heat. Each cycle ends with a Cool Down period during which the load tumbles without heat. Check the location of the indicator on the Cycle Selector knob.
