Try the reset, its the tiny hole on the side. turn the gps on then using a paper clip, insert it in the reset hole and let it reboot.

if that fails and if you have not downloaded and installed the latest update ( 2.18 ) go here and download it and follow the directions to the letter, do not lose your patients with this update, it is huge ( 1.76GB) and takes at least 20-45 minutes to install...do not uplug the device untill prompted to do so from the install manager.

start your 3100, then get a paper clip and depress the reset on the left side near the bottom of your 3100 to reset it and let it restart. that should fix it, but if it doesnt, let me know and ill tell you what to do next.

How do you update the magellan 3100, i have no software
you have to download the update on to your computer, then run the program and follow the directions to the letter, or you'll render your 3100 inoperable.

you can get the update HERE it will also update your maps, plus it includes PR and HI maps

you must register on the magellan site before it will let you download the update..there is also an option to by the dvd for 4.99

Need code for Magellan 3100 Europe map
im in the same boat, i need the germany code, the gps comes with 7 pre loaded maps but you only get to choose 1 (i chose uk) you have to buy codes to unlock the others if you need them, but there is nowhere to buy the codes and the website and customer service are both usless.

charge it up for a few hours, then take it outside and start your 3100, then get a paper clip and depress the reset on the left side near the bottom of your 3100 to reset it and let it restart, then wait for a while (could take up to 30 minutes after a reset) and let it acquire/lock on to the satellites. that should fix it, but if it doesnt, let me know and ill tell you what to do next.

Magellan Maestro 3100 locks
You can try a hard reset. Hold in the reset button (left side of unit, use a pin or toothpick), while turning on the unit. If you don't get the blue Magellan screen, you'll have to try again. If you get a screen with a blue background and a menu, turn it off and try again.
So far, this has fixed:
1. unit won't go on
2. unit reboots when routing
3. unit turns off after a few seconds

At least, it's fixed it for me. No idea why this happens, but it's pretty damn annoying. Give it a try.

Bin it - get a Tomtom.. my Roadamte 700 has had so many problems and Magellan support just don't care/respond.

Am getting a Tomtom 720T with maps and cameras preloaded - updates automatically each time you place it on its cradle attached to your PC/internet.
