Windows Vista shortcuts disappear!!

Ok on windows vista, I am having this issue of where all my desktop shortcuts just disappear on startup. They appear for a brief moment then just go away. I managed to figure out how to have them reappear by doing right click-view-show desktop items on the desktop screen. This works and all the shortcuts reappear but the issue is when I restart the computer they still just disappear and I want to have them just appear and stay appearing until everything finishes loading throught the computer! So I don't want to keep doing this over and over every single time.

Basically a friend showed the power 4 extreme option by right clicking on the battery icon at the bottem right of the screen and then setting in the quiet office section to say no to hide desktop icons. Now its no longer a problem!

How to add Windows 7 new keyboard shortcuts to Windows Vista.

If you have liked the new hotkey keyboard shortcuts which Windows 7 has introduced, you can add the same in Windows Vista or XP too

Download and use an app called Windows 7 Shortcuts. Shortcuts Included:
Win+Left/Right arrows: Dock the window to each side of the monitor
Win+Up arrow: Maximize the active window
Win+Down arrow: Minimize the window/Restore the window if it's maximized
Partially Included:
Win+Space: Note from the developer: AHK won't allow multiple windows to be made transparent easily. Therefore, I've changed it to make the active window transparent until it is released.

Can dell dimension 5100 run windows vista? Does it have a dual core processor?

Your computer can handle it hardware wise, the issue your going to run into is you need to find the vista version of your hardware drivers since the Dell website doesn't have vista drivers for your computer.

The toolbar has disappeared

Ok, on windows desktop screen right click your mouse, select personalize, click on TASK BAR AND START MENU, pop up will show select TOOLBARs, then check Quicklaunch.

If icon is missing just create short cut to your desktop, then click and drag, then delete shortcut in desktop screen.

This is for vista.

As for XP it should be properties for personalize, then search for the link.

Leave a comment if this is not the exact one.

My windows vista hangs often;

Download process explorer

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx'

Extract the program, make a shortcut and copy the shortcut to

START MENU- PROGRAMS - STARTUP
Now every time you start the computer process explorer will start up and you can kill any processes you need

also you can disable programs from startup by

start -> run -> msconfig -> startup tab

Windows Vista will Shutdown but will restart in immediately

You can create a shutdown icon on your desktop that might resolve your issue.

  1. Right-click on the desktop, choose New and then Shortcut.4ffc395.jpg
  2. In the shortcut location box, enter
    • Shutdown.exe -s -t 00
  3. When you've clicked 'Next...', you'll be asked to name the shortcut. Probably best to name it 'Shutdown'
  4. After you click 'Finish' you should now have a new icon that you can double-click to shutdown your computer.
Hope this helps! : )

You're probably not going to find one. Vista lets you run old programs in 'compatibility mode' - actually, so does Windows XP. TSometimes it works, some times not but it's worth a try.

To use, you have to...
  1. right-click on the games' shortcut (either located on your desktop as an icon, or in Start -> All Programs).
  2. Once you right-click on the shortcut, click 'Properties'
  3. click on the 'Compatibility' tab at the top
  4. under the 'Compatibility mode' section, check the box that says 'Run this program in the compatibility mode for:'
  5. then choose 'windows 98' from the dropdown menu
  6. click ok when done
Good luck and I hope this helps! : )
