Toshiba 42DPC85 Picture Went Out - BLACK SCREEN!

While watching a movie, the picture just went black. Head a click as if it turned off and nothing. Sound was still there but no picture. Does anyone know what the part # is and the board that would need to be replaced to fix this problem? I'd rather try to fix it myself and try to save a few bucks. Location of part for purchase would also be helpful.

I would rather try that first instead of paying these over-priced techs that know they can fix it for a REASONABLE price but ellect to overcharge. This is the exact cause of all of these products to be disposable instead of fixing them. If I knew how to fix this stuff, I'd do it for a flat REASONABLE fee and be sure to lock down a ton of business. It's better to have 100 customers at $50 ea. than 25 customers at $200 ea. and less that would be interested because of the prices.

This is a common problem on these plasma TV's. The problem resides inthe high voltage boards known as the X and Y Sustain boards.. You canpurchase them here for a very reasonable price:
http://www.discount-merchant.com/Y-SUSTAIN-FOR-42-PLASMA-TV-PN-6871QYH036A-p/sku9510.htm

The above link is to a Y-SUS board. The X-Sus board is often the 2nd cause of failure and can be found here:
http://www.discount-merchant.com/X-SUSTAIN-6871QZH041B-6870QZE017D-6871QZH052D-p/sku9509.htm

Totest which board is failing, you need to check voltage input to theYSUS board first... Input should be 120V from Power supply, outputshould be above 250V.. Do this test with XSUS disconnected. IF 250+Vexists, then XSUS is damaged. If not, then the YSUS is the faulty part.

Why does my samsung plasma 550 have no picture?

It sounds like a capacitor blew in one of the internal circuit boards. A capacitor makes the pop you described, and techs actually refere to them as "being popped".

I have a 2005, 42" toshiba LCD model 42DPC85 that when we turn it on everything is good except the whole screen is black but imediatly the colors dot by dot start making the black disappear, it only took...

You need a new DLP chip. The chip has little mirrors that are black on one side and white on the other side. When the chip wears out , your screen will turn white one dot at a time or black one dot at a time or they may just all stick shut at once. Since your screen is black, all your mirrors are closed. You can buy the chip from shopjimmy.com and they have a video of how to replace the chip so you can do it yourself. It takes about 1 1/2 hours. The chip is about $160. To have this service done for you is about $200. Do it yourself and save the money. Your tv will be just like new again. Just make sure the chip is in perfectly level or when you turn your tv back on, your picture will be slanted. you won't notice it on the picture itself but words on the screen or scrolling messages and the menu will be slanted.

No Picture

It's the Y-Sustainer problem. However, they normally change the Y-Sus and Z-sus boards at the same time. It's a costly repair.

You have a cap on the powersupply going bad. it can be replaced but you will have to take the back of the unit apart to find out witch one it is. look for one that is swelling at the top.
