Re: New to Radio Scanners

If it just seems to be "stuck" on static, you probably need to adjust the Squelch. Try turning the squelch down until the static stops.
If you haven't programmed any frequencies into the banks, scanning won't do anything. Press "Func" and "Scan" to perform a Search. This way, if you find a frequency with a lot of chatter, you can program it into a bank for scanning later.
The easiest thing to do is to find frequencies for your local police, fire, etc. on the internet & program them into the various banks on the scanner.

I have a UBC72XLT scanner which I sometimes use with a external roof mounted antenna. Recently while connecting this antenna to the scanner there was a static discharge. The performance is now way down so...

You can contact the Uniden customer service department via email by following this link:
But the cost of repair will likely exceed the value of your scanner. I routinely see used and refurbished BC72XLT scanners for sale on eBay in the $50 range.

Programming and operating the UBC92XLT is fairly straightforward, and detailed instructions can be found in the factory manual. If you don't already have this document, you can download and print it here:

The above manual is for the USA model BC92XLT, but the two scanners are nearly identical.

No sound from my new Uniden UBC72XLT radio scanner

Your best bet is to send it to Uniden for factory certified repair. They may charge a little more than your local electronics shop, but they will use the correct parts and give you a quality repair with a factory warranty. You can contact them here:

Uniden UBC72XLT scanner problem.

The cheapest solution would be to directly program the frequencies that are available in your area, usually this is public information with the exception of high security channels, you can call each location and ask them what frequency they broadcast

Do you know what frequencies they use?
This scanner does not cover the 200-400 MHz range, where military planes operate in the United States. If the UK military uses the same band then you probably will not be able to monitor them.
