You need a new motherboard, unfortunately. Something shorted on the CD controller which is part of the system board. If it is under warranty, they should be able to fix it free of charge.

When i switch the laptop, i hear a knocking sound from hard disk and the computer displays non - system disk or error disk plz help

Good Day Kawindwe!

I am sorry but I think the hard disk is on its last leg. A knocking sounds is the first symptoms of faulty hard disk. It is better to replace it.

The non-system disk error is displayed when the CMOS BIOS failed to detect the hard disk.

There is a small chances of making your hard disk work again. It worked for me before maybe it might work with you too.

First, turn off your Laptop. Remove the power supply adaptor from your Laptop. Remove the battery. Press and hold the power on button for at least 5 seconds to discharge remaining volts on your unit. After awhile, return the battery, plug in the power supply adaptor and turn on Laptop. See if that recognize again your hard disk.

If the first did not fix it, try this one. Turn off your Laptop. Disconnect your hard disk and then reseat the connectors properly. Then, turn on your device. Did that fix your problem?

Kawindwe, in case that fixed it, I recommend you back up your files cause the hard disk will not last that long.

metod 1, remove battery from pc, after 10-15 minute put, and turn on pc.
If will not be resault, you need reinstall operating system, but how i understand , your pc have problem with ramdrive, /wheh you are burning the disk, it working with this logic, writing it in your ram drive, from it on disck/.

I just put a new 9 cell battery, two new 2GB ram cards & a new, blank hard drive in our Dell Inspiron 1525. But the screen does not seem to work when I turn it on, or after I put in an installation...

Remove the battery, and connect the AC power. Then, try to start it.

Disconnect the AC power, and remove the "new" disk-drive.
Then, connect the AC power, and try to start it.

Disconnect the AC power. Remove the "new" RAM, and put the "old" RAM back in.
Then, connect the AC power, and try to start it.

If it does start, add the "new" disk-drive, and try again.

If it does start, add the "new" RAM, and try again.

HP ZD 7000 wont power up. Will plug in, power light on, press the power button, light goes out computer doesnt turn on

I had a similar though somewhat different problem. My zd7000 was plugged in but it was oscillating between charging the battery and running from the battery. In the past I'd adjust the jack position and life was good - this time nothing mattered. I turned the laptop off and noticed that the charge light came on and stayed on - I guessed something was freaky with the battery so I switched to my spare - the charger light came on, I turned on the power I had a brief power on followed by zzzzttt then everything died. I could smell the stench of electrical burning. I disassemble the whole laptop and removed the motherboard - the back of the power jack is burned. A new jack is $10.

If I had to guess, I"d guess you have a bad jack. I've seen offers to repair this on the net for $100. If the offer is legit, I'd rather pay the bucks - theres only 5 billion screws in the laptop - plus the risk of static discharge damaging to boards or the pain of getting the processor heat sink out without damaging the processor and then getting heat conducting "grease" between the processor and the heat sink when you put it all back together again. I figured my unit was dead anyway, might as well see if I could find the issue. Now I need to get a new jack - and see if I can get it all back together again...

Laptop powers down 5 seconds after turning on

Straight forward method would be to download Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset from microsoft.com, write it to a bootable CD. Make your Laptop bootable from CD drive (ie. is change the sequence of booting. At present it will be booting from Hard disk.) Boot from the CD you just created. Check what is the problem. And possible repair can be done. Check this link.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee460910.aspx

But.. may be a little difficult.
And while I am at this, be careful when you take out a hard disk from one laptop and insert it in another laptop. Even though it is from the same manufacturer, it may not be compatible.
Another easier option would be to get hold of a desktop computer that is working. Get a cable which can be used to connect your laptop Hard disk to the desktop. A desk top allows multiple drives. This way you can get the laptop HDD as a seperate drive in your My computer, (like you see a pendrive or a CD drive. You can try reading this drive and copy content to the desktop. And burn it to a CD. May be a little more easier. If you have difficulty in reading the Laptop HDD, you can download one or the other programs that helps in reading corrupted drives. Good luck.

Hibernation is a power management feature. When you hibernate a laptop, you're essentially turning it off. So, unlike Stand By (Sleep) mode, a hibernated laptop isn't using any battery power at all - that laptop is off!

The secret behind hibernation is that before you turn off the laptop, everything you're doing with the computer is saved. (The contents of memory are saved to the hard disk.) When the computer is turned on again, it recovers from hibernating by reloading all the saved information and restoring your laptop to exactly the same condition it was in before it was hibernated.

Briefly, hibernation works like this:

1. You activate the hibernation feature.

Hibernation is activated differently depending on how it's set up.

2. The laptop hums as everything in memory is saved to disk.

3. The laptop turns itself off.

It's really and truly off: The battery isn't being used, and it's safe to store the laptop or put it away until you need to use it again.

To recover from Hibernation mode, just turn the laptop on. In some cases, the laptop may recover from hibernation when you press a key or touch the mouse pad. hibernated state for as long as you want.

Hibernation mode requires hard drive space. So you should be aware that when hard drive space runs low, it's possible that Hibernation mode won't work.

In Windows XP, you have to activate Hibernation mode before you can use it. Follow these steps to activate Hibernation:

1. Click the Start button.

2. From the Start menu, choose Control Panel.

3. Open the Power Options icon in the Control Panel.

4. In the Power Options Properties dialog box, look for and click on the Hibernation tab.

If you don't see a Hibernation tab, there's your answer: The laptop isn't capable of hibernating. Oh, well.

You might want to check the laptop's Setup program to see whether you can activate Hibernation there.

5. Select the Enable Hibernation option by clicking the check box to place a check mark in the box.

6. Review other options, if they're available.

7. Click OK to confirm the changes and close the Power Options Properties dialog box.

Optionally, close the Control Panel window, as well.

Some laptops may require you to restart Windows for this change to take effect.

Burning error all the time

the reason why it went from burning everything to barely burning and now not burning is because the laser in your dvd drive is bad. It takes alot of power from the laser to burn dvd's and it only has so many hours that it can burn before it goes completely. Replacing the drive is the way to solve the problem. If you machine is under warranty then getting it replaced by sony shouldn't be a problem. If its out of warranty then getting one off of ebay should be pretty cheap.

Hp pavillion dv7 won't power on

Same issue - solved by disconencting everything (main battery, CMOS battery, RAM, hard disk and wireless card). Held in power button for 20 seconds (HP say this removes any electostatic charge on the main board). Reconnected everything and machine booted to Windows. Ran HP's onboard diagnostics and everything checked out OK.

I have a presario f500 and it will not turn on

Try this:

Unplug everything (and I do mean *everything*) from the laptop and remove the battery.

Then with no power of any kind for the laptop, hold down the power button 15 seconds.

Attach A/C power and try to turn it on.

If that does not work, remove power and take out the CD/DVD drive and if you feel

comfortable with it, take out the RAM and hard drive.

Connect power and try to turn on. See if you get beeps or a power light on the laptop. If

you get beeps, put the RAM back in and try power again. If that gives you a display, add

back the hard drive.

Let me know what happens.
