Question about GE JVM1850 1000 Watts Microwave Oven

GE JVM1660BB003 Replace door handle. Spring latch came off in the process. Where does the bottom of the sprin connect ot the door assembly?

Posted by on

  • Rob F Dec 07, 2007

The sprig does connect to the latch shown. There are several holes/slots on the metal pat of the door. Connected to one. Door is now 'finicky' as far as the latch activating the failsafe switches.

  • Rob F Dec 08, 2007

I'm giving up. The spring is installed properly, handle in place, but the failsafe switches do not want to activate unless you fiddle with the door. Cheaper to buy a new one. The door appears to close fully but needs another 1/32 to 1/16' to activate.

I believe one side of spring connects to the center of this DOOR KEY and other to STATIONARY part of the door .This should be facing the same direction from spring and near the spring..goodluck

I'm unable to open the microwave door on model Sanyo EM-S8586W as it appears the spring is broken. How do I remove the cover so I can replace the spring please?

make this steps and fix it. God bless you

  1. Open leverCheck your microwave lever to determine if it is damaged. If it is broken, simply replace the lever to get your microwave door fully functional again.
  2. Door springResponsible for keeping downward pressure on the door hook, the microwave door spring can begin to malfunction. If this part is broken and prevents you from opening your microwave door, replacement is necessary.
  3. Door latchOne reason your microwave door may not open properly is a broken door latch. Located inside the microwave, the door latch manipulates the door hook to keep the door closed for safety and top performance. If broken, the door could become stuck in the locked position.
  4. Door hookIf your microwave door will not release properly, the door hook could be damaged. Located inside the door, the door hook is made of plastic and prone to breakage with extended use or age. As this part is unable to be repaired, the only option is to replace it.
  5. Button or button springIf the microwave door will not open, it could be an internal failure of the button or button spring. If it is determined that either of these parts is the source, both are replaceable and it is recommended that they be installed at the same time.
  6. Handle actuatorIf the microwave door will not open the plastic handle actuator could be broken. Connected between the door button and the door latch assembly, this plastic part could become damaged and brittle over time, which makes breaking inevitable. If this occurs, replace the handle actuator to get your microwave fully functional again.

I have a GE Spacemaker (JVM1631). The door latching mechanism has failed and will not stay closed causing the the microwave to not function. Do you have any troubleshooting suggestions?

Hi, normally the problem is not the spring, but a broken spring mounting tab on the door latch head (hook) assembly or the inner door panel.
If it's the door panel, it's usually easier and cheaper to use epoxy and some kind of hardware to fashion a new spring mount.
The door latch head (hook) is easy to replace or repair if that's the issue.
Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the manual) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that demonstrates how it's done.

The best place to order GE parts is Tritronics.

If you gently push up on the door latch heads (hook-like devices sticking out of the door) there should be spring tension. If they just flop right up, the spring is off inside.

How to install WB15X10022 GE Microwave Handle.

This is a generic answer

Open the door and look carefully for a plactic strip that may be covering screws. If none. look on the bottom edge or the edge with the hinge. Remember, someone had to assemble the door so there has to be some way to disassemble it. I have never seen one that can not be opened (glued, cemented or welded closed) Remember, most doors are spring loaded and may snap shut on you with the door partially removed. Also, keep in mind the process you went through to get it apart. You will have to reverse that process. You may want to take pics with your cell phone as you progress.

Once open (and you may need a 'Torx' tool to remove the screws), replacing the handle should be simple.

Let me know how you make out.

Repalce Door handle on GE Profile model number SCA1000DBB03

There're some half a dozen or so small screws securing that frame to the door face. These screws must be removed. Then, the frame can be pried out by releasing the plastic snappers (with a flat screwdriver) while in the same time gently helping the frame to detach from these snappers' hold and the door face. It's a tidious, somewhat annoying task. The snappers may and will even likely break in the process, but aren't needed for the frame to be resecured to the door face after the handle is replaced. Note that the broken ends of the handle must be held with a pair of pliers or a flat screwdriver needs to be inserted bewteen each of them and the hole, or the ends will turn with the screws. This is because the metal screws' grip of the plastic handle broken ends is very strong and will otherwise won't get separated.Once the above is accomplished, reassembling the door is a brease.

P.S.: The dual end latch may interfere somewhat with the job and can be removed for the prtocess to be undertaken without it disturbing. It's easy to remove and replace that latch, including its spring.

Microwave handle replacement

How to replace handle on GE Advantium SCA1001DSS.

Remove two screws on top at front in order to remove plastic front vent grill. Then the door lifts off pin hinges. Lay door flat on surface. Plastic trim snaps off with gentle prying (start at bottom middle and bottom hinge side). Then remove six screws holding notched metal section with door latch. This piece will also snap out (several visible clips holding it around edges). Then remove door handle screws, Replace handle and reverse process to put back together.
