There are no actual "jumper leads" on a CD/DVD drive although there is a jumper to set the drive as either Master,Slavve or Cable Select.
This is a small plastic covered metal "clip" located at the back of the drive ans covers 2 of the 6 pins.

The settings are usually stamped in the casing of the drive above each set of 2 pins as follows Ma,Sl,CS. The jumper just pulls off although you may need a small screwdriver or pair of tweezers to enable removal and just slides back on.

Normaally there is a block of pins out the back that has small plastic encased jumpers that slide onto different pins to change the configuration. A pair of tweezers are useful to handle the jumpers.

Cd n dvd drives not recognised in My Computer

If one drive has resently been installed on the back of the drive there is a jumper with 3 choices of c/s S and M if the jumper is set to cs changer one drive to M for master and change the other drive to S for slave and reboot. If it still wont show drives try reversing the jumpers and reboot. If still not working change your cable to the motherboard.

You can boot up your laptop with Tenorshare Data Recovery WinPE to recover your files. It allows users to burn ISO file to CD/DVD/USB Flash Drive and boot up Operating System from bootable CD/DVD/USB Flash Drive directly. You can use it to retrieve data under any boot up problem.Get it from http://www.any-data-recovery.com/product/datarecoverywinpe.htm Then perform a system restore to fix your operating system.

Cant get burner to reconised on pc

Since this is an IDE drive, please check the Master/Slave/Cable Select jumpers, if you've connected the drive in the same cable of your hard drive, you should check its jumper settings, if hard drive is set as Master, the DVD writer it should be as Slave, if the hard disk jumper is set to Cable Select (CS), the DVD should be in the same way too. After this check if DVD drive is identified correctly in BIOS, it's a good idea to set drive detection as Auto, if this all is OK, check its driver in Windows, it must be appear as a DVD-RW drive.

Need to replace cd-rom drive, how difficult? dell dimension 3000 pc desktop

It is not difficult to change cd/dvd drive.
Open cpu cabinet.
Then remove icd cable and power cable from cd/dvd drive.
Then remove screws of old cd/dvd drive.
Then you can pull it from cabinet from front side.
Then put your new cd/dvd drive into it's position then lock it with screws.
Then connect ide cable from motherboard and power cable to drive.
Then you can use it.
If you connect to drive with 1 ide cable means if you connect harddrive and cd/dvd drive with 1 cable then set harddrive as master and cd/dvd rom as slave you can set it slave with jumper settings.
It is in back side of cd/dvd drive.
There is instruction how to slave it with jumper.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks for using FixYa.

Im looking for the jumper settings on a compaq motherboared. its a presario 7478

hello CAVdesert,
I don't think you ever have to change the jumper settings on the motherboard. You may need to change in few cases but otherwise, changing motherboard jumper settings is not recommended.
However, if you need to configure the jumper settings for your Hard Drive, CD/DVD Drive etc, Please refer to the following document.

Jumper Settings for the Installation of Hard Disks and CD, CDRW, and DVD Drives

CD Rom/DVD drive

Check out the Jumper setting of the CD/DVD drive as the Jumper setting is not proper or your H-disk and CD/DVD drive can have the same jumper setting so only can be used at one time .I think you should also update your CD/DVD driver form your system disk.

DVD drive

Hi usually when the light stays on this means the cable is the wrong way round the same problem occures when you get the floppy drive lead the wrong way round.
If the dvd drive came out of a working computer then the jumper settings were probably correct if the cable can go the other way round try that.
The only other problem you can have is are you building an ibm compatible computer if you are is the dvd ibm compatible if this is also not the problem then the chances are the dvd drive is damaged.
Do you have a normal cd drive in and working if you do try using it in the place of this if this still dont work then i would say the unit is dammaged.
check the leads not damaged but what you are explaining sounds like the lead is wrong way round let me know how you get on ok

Samsung sh-m522c

As long as you have set the jumper at the back correctly to either master if its on its own ide lead, or slave if it's one of two on the same ide lead then if it will not play original cd's or dvd's then the drive is faulty, and you should return to your retailer.
