Question about Acomdata (HD320UFAPE5-72) (HD320UFAPE572) 320 GB Hard Drive

No recognized by any PC I try to plug in

HI, I have this Acomdata 320 GB HD more than 1 year. Everything was fine. I loaded alot of photos and music in that HD. A few days ago, I try to plug it to my new PC with Vista. It didn't show up in Device Manager and My computer. Then I plugged to my old PC XP, nothing showed up either. I plug and unplug HD while computers are off (of course). When HD is turn on with the blue light, it seems to me it doesn't process anything.
1- What can i do to make it recognized by PC again?
2- if not, what can i do to recover all the files (photos and music) from HD (I want to do it myself)?

Thank you very much for your advice.

AcomData 320GB worked mostly fine through one year warranty (sometimes seems to get "overheated" & stall but could always be rebooted) until yesterday when could not be rebooted and....

The light is on but the drive will not be recongnized by the same computer that is has been connected to forever. It appears that the "disc" is not turning, all that can be heard is a faint clicking sound from the sad cold metal box that holds all of my music, ouch & please help if possible

Geek Squaders at Best Buy sez the repair &/or data recovery costs start at $500 and will take 3-4 weeks.

I have the same problem, and coincidentally have had the drive for about a year. Same story, I've loaded it up with tons of music and photos. Now, I get the same faint clicking noise and no computer that I hook it up to will access the drive. Looking in Windows Device Manager, it just gives me that the "device cannot start (code 10)". Would love to hear some solution. Any ideas?

Have the same problem, just stopped recognizing the drive. The only hint I have is that my husband had the problem with his drive, tried it in my computer and now my external drive is dead also. Could it be the latest windows update?

    I have a

Acomdata WD 500 gb HD. It's about 1/2 full of data, mostly photos. My son loaded a game on it from his computer then copied the game to my laptop now I cannot access my Acomdata HD. The blue light comes on but nothing seems to happen. I can hear it spool up, then it cliks a few times then nothing. My computer and another computer we tried does not recognize it. If I unplug the USB when the drive is on it gives me a "you must format the disk before use" message. Please Help. Thanks. Steve

Same problem here with Mac OSX. Other drives work fine (cheaper ones!) but this one isn't recognized at all and makes the strange clicking sound when I power it on - something it never did before/when working properly.

Purchased new computer. Installed my Acomdata 320 GB HD. I was able to access it and transfer files over to a new external HD I purchased for the new comp. . When I hooked my acomdata 320 gb (1 yr old) to the computer I originally had it installed on it was no longer recognized, so I plugged it up to the front usb port non 2.0 and it was recognized and pop up showed to hook it up to one of the open 2.0 usb ports. Tried it on all the 2.0 ports with no luck. I then plugged it up the new computer and it was no longer recognized by it either. I then updated the acomdata driver and no luck with it, I rolled back the driver with no luck also. I also am recieving the message with the code 10, but have no Idea where to search for the meaning of the code 10 error. I went as far as removing it thru the add/remove programs hoping it would reinstall itself and again nothing.

I have an Acomdata 250 GB HD that just disappeared from my computer. Called Acomdata and they told me that it sounds like the drive crashed, but it could be the enclosure. Said to try another power cord if I have one. Otherwise, remove drive from enclosure and put it into my computer to see if it will work. Guess it's time to call someone that knows more about computer components.

I now have a way to recover data, not only from these, but from just about anything. Since I now get paid for doing it, i'm not posting the method on fixya for free. But if you want to get to me, my username is my electronic mail at MicroSoft Network mail. I've done about 50 by now, and I have so far about a 95% success rate.

I was just having the same problem... but someone I connected it to my computer, forgot it was connected, and when i got back everything was back again (needless to say i got another 500GB HD from another company and back up the first 500gb).

But if that didn't work, i was going to take the drive out and connect it as a slave to my computers MB, back it up, reformat it, and then put it back in the enclosure to see if it works again (at least i have my data).

$500 bucks?!?!? Shoot, send it to me and i'll do it for $299 (that includes a Western Digital 500gb External =)

Hopes this helps.

Th prob lem could be most probably your hard drive casing not supplying the correct voltage and not enough for the hard disk to spin the moter so please connect the hd directly to the computer if its fine just change the external casing..

Sounds like the drive has seized spindle... Not good news.
Is it buzzing similar to any of these noises: ?
What you should do is remove the internal drive from the enclosure and connect it directly to the computer. If still buzzing then it's a real mechanical problem...

Hard Drive doesn't show up

Try doing flea power & the power cycle.

1. Disconnect all the peripherals like keyboard, mouse, printer, scanner & monitor and power supply from the CPU.

And press & hold the power button for 2 min, it will release the flea power from the mother board.

Restart the system & check.

2. Disconnect everything.wait for 5-10 minutes and then connect every thing.

Restart the system.

If it does not resolve the issue then you can try this :

Just remove the registry key it happen when this key is corrupted.

And delete all references to the external hard drive.

And also HLKM\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB

and found the keys associated with the USB to IDE value.

After restarting the system, the drive shold be detected & configured automatically by the computer.

Good Luck.
