Turn up P440 brightness alternative to Fn -> key

My right arrow button on my keyboard is broken. Is there any other way to change screen brightness (backlight brightness). For some reason my machine dims the screen every time its rebooted. I can fiddle with a bit of wire across the -> key while I hold down the Fn key and so now and then it makes contact and turns the brightness up, but next time I switch on the screen is dim again - and I am tired of fiddling with a bit of wire!
