To delete everything on your hard drive and re-install all factory software: 1 If you can still run Windows: a Click Start, All Programs, Gateway Recovery Center, then click Gateway Recovery Center. The Gateway Recovery Center opens. b Click Recovery, then click Next. Your computer restarts. - OR - 2 If you cannot run Windows: a Turn on or restart your computer. b While the computer is starting up, repeatedly press F8 until the Recovery Options screen opens. If Windows starts to load instead, restart the computer and try again. 3 Press the arrow keys on your keyboard to select Repair Your Computer, then press ENTER. Gateway System Recovery starts, and the System Recovery Options dialog box opens. 4 Select a language and keyboard layout, then click Next. 5 Click the User name box to select a Windows user account, click in the Password box and type the user account’s password (if any), then click Next. The System Recovery Options menu opens. 6 Click Restore Application. The Welcome to Gateway System Recovery window opens. 7 Click Next. 8 To perform a recovery with data backup (recommended), click Recovery with automatic data backup, then click Next. Important Before your hard drive is recovered, your personal files will be automatically backed up to c:\backup. - OR - To perform a full factory recovery without data backup, click Full factory recovery, then click Next. Caution Continuing with the full factory recovery will delete everything on your hard drive. Make sure that you have backed up any important files you want to save. 9 Click Yes, then click Next. The Factory image recovery window opens, which shows you the progress of the system recovery. When recovery is finished, the Recovery is complete window opens. 10 Click Finish, then click Restart. Your computer restarts in its original factory condition. You still need to reinstall any software that was not pre-installed on your computer. If you selected Recovery with automatic data backup in Step 8, you can find your backed up files in c:\backup.

Hi,

This is an snippet from the Gateway Website.

"In order to access the boot options on this portable computer, press the ESC or F10 key while the Gateway screen is displayed during the startup process. This opens a Boot menu with the option to start the computer to any of the available drives or to enter the BIOS Setup Utility. Use the UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW keys to select a menu option, and then press the ENTER key to start to the selected device. To "boot" (start) to a CD, DVD, or a floppy disk, the media must be in the drive when starting the computer."

I use a sony vaio vpceb 290x laptop and recently erased and wiped all data off it.naw my recovery disc is broken and i need to restore my pc back to its original factory seettings.pls help me,i am heavy...

If you have a recovery partition on the pc then you can use that. Hit the power button as soon as the vaio splash screen comes up look at the bottom of the screen if you see a recovery option then you have one. If you don't see one you can try tapping the f11 key right after you hit the power button to try and bring up the recovery partition if present. If neither get you to a recovery partition you can order a recovery disc from sony Or borrow an OS disc from a friend whether it be xp vista or 7 and then it will ask for a product key. It will be located on the bottom of you laptop. You would also have to download the drivers that make all your hardware work from sony's download page while on another pc connected to the internet. You can obtain the drivers by simple going to sony's homepage sony.com select service&support, then Drivers\Software from the menu at the top of the page. Select your model and download the drivers to a jump drive so that you can transfer them back to the vaio to install.

I want to formate my system how can i do it instruct me...and will my genune copy of windows be tutelly removed

First of all, no your windows operating system key would not be removed because your hardware is already register to your computer. Yes by formatting your computer, you will loose everything and every single files, including the o.s. If you want to format and You want to restore your computer to factory setting, you will need to make a restore/recovery disk provide in the acer management program. You will see a option for making a backup disk in the acer management software in the start menua via all programs. After making this disc, save all the files that you want like pic, music, video, doc to an external harddrive. Insert disc or simply leave disc, Turn of you computer, setup your bios to boot from cd/dvd-disc in the bios boot menu. (should see this option when starting up the first few second, maybe a F key or DEl key to get you into the bios menu or A key saying boot option) Set your boot prority to cd/dvd. The Acer recovery program will come on and follow direction. If you just want to format everything and not making a recovery/restore disk (which I would not recommend unless you bought another windows operating system disc). Then just click my computer and locate your harddrive, Right click, format, you should be good to go. You will loose everything.

Cant restore acer netbook back to facotry settings did not do backup when purchased

Recovery procedure for Acer netbooks.

Important Information

The Recovery disc will help you to restore the hard drive with the original software content that was installed when you purchased your notebook. Follow the steps below to rebuild your hard drive. Your drive will be reformatted and all data will be erased. It is important to back up all data files before you use this option.

Restoration procedure:

1. Press the power button to turn the system on.

2. Select to boot from a USB optical drive. There are two ways to do this:

2.1. Press <F2> during the Power-On Self-Test (when the Acer logo is displayed onscreen after bootup) to enter BIOS Setup.

2.1.1. Select the Boot menu.

2.1.2. Refer to onscreen instructions to set the first device to any bootable optical disc drive.

2.2. Press <F12> during the Power-On Self-Test (when the Acer logo is displayed onscreen after bootup), and select the USB ODD from the list that appears.

3. Ensure the Recovery disc is in an external (USB) optical disc drive, and exit the boot selection menu, by selecting Exit Saving Changes from the Exit menu or pressing <F10>, or by pressing <Enter> as appropriate.

4. Select Exit Saving Changes from the Exit menu or press <F10>.

5. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation process.

6. When you finish the recovery process, please remove the Recovery disc and insert the System disc again.

7. Restart your computer.

Create a Recovery USB device

You will need a second computer with an ODD to complete this procedure.

1) Insert the Recovery CD into the optical drive. Plug in a USB/flash drive with a minimum capacity of 1 GB.

2) Enter the BIOS setup and set the first boot device to the ODD. Save the changes and exit.

3) Allow your computer to boot up.

4) From the list of options, select "install2usb".

5) You will see a list of available disks, select the USB drive you plugged in.

6) Click the next button to complete the procedure.

7) Remove the USB ODD and USB/flash drive. You now have the Recovery system stored in your USB/flash drive, for future use if necessary.

Asking For recovery Disk for Windows Vista But I

You can go to dell.com and ask them for the disc needed. Expect to have to pay at least $25 for it. It could cost more for a recovery disc. Does the computer have a recovery partition on it already? When the computer first starts to boot-up do you see an option for Recovery listed along with Setup & Boot Menu? If yes, then press the key displayed for entering Recovery. If you don't see that option, then start tapping on the F12 key at boot. It should take you to Boot Menu. Do you see anything listed Utilities or Recovery? If yes, then choose that option to try to access your recovery partition. If you don't see anything useful for you there, then reboot and start tapping on the F8 key. A black screen with white text should be displayed with Safe Mode listed at the top. Look in this list for Utilities or Recovery. If you don't see it listed there, then it most likely means that the computer doesn't have a Recovery Partition or that part of the hard drive has malfunctioned for some reason. You could always try choosing LastKnownGoodConfiguration to see if that resolves your issues. Other than that I would just get the disc from Dell and use that, or take it to a computer shop and have them reinstall Windows on it. That may cost between $65 - $80.

(I hope it's the correct one)

and go to page 74 of the pdf manual.
