Question about Honeywell HZ780 Oil Filled Radiator Heater

Defective plug Honeywell HZ 680C

I have a Honeywell oil heater and when I plugged the unit into thewall, smoke and flames started coming out. It's not the wall socketbecause I checked the heater in other outlets and it did the samething. Very dangerous. Good thing it happened while I was home.

Can the plug/cord be replaced? Is there a recall on these units?

I couldn't find the right product in the list, so used the one that was closest. I have a 680-C

Have exactly the same problem with a Black honeywell (with digital readout). Two different outlets / sparking/melting plug... VERY DANGEROUS! I may try replacing the plug - Honeywell's website is terrible.

*All Heaters*-Where can I get parts for my heater? Answer: Unfortunately, we do not have any replacement parts available online for heaters. You can obtain parts by calling consumer relations at 800-332-1110. The only parts currently available are replacement wheels for oil filled heaters. If you are looking for any other parts, please call us or send an email to and let us know the model number of the heater, the length of time you have owned it for, and a detailed description of what is wrong with it.   Question: All Heaters-Can I use an extension cord with my heater? Answer: You should avoid the use of an extension cord as it may overheat. However, if you have to use an extension cord , be sure it is a polarized cord of 14 AWG minimum and rated no less than 1875 watts.

I could find no recall on you product. They do not supply parts. I am sure you can match up the plug and cord at any good hardware or appliance parts store. Are you sure it is the cord?  The element could be shorted out.
DO you have an ohm, meter or small batter light tester to tes t the cord and eliments with?

My Honeywell HZ-717 won't turn on. Suggestions?

  1. If the Socket where the heater has been plugged in is receiving power, the Fuse in the Plug may have blown. Check that.
  2. Check for loose cabling contact.
  3. Since it is new, it must be under warranty, call the Service people from Honeywell first.

If the sockets are hot (electrically, plug in something to confirm that sockets operation) and you are pushing the right button on the heater, then the unit is defective. There is no type of resettable sensor to my knowledge (not consumer accessible).
