Pop in the recovery disk and then restart the laptop. It will walk you through it, but be forewarned - you will lose all data.

A question first, were you running anti-virus software and was it up to date?
Your best bet is to use the system disks and try doing a repair on the operating system. If it is still under warranty you may be able to get Tech Support at Toshiba to assist you.

Best of luck, Jim

Wont start up at all,it will come on

As soon as you press power button and turn laptop on, keep tapping F8 until another screen pops up.

Select safe mode with networking from menu.

Then go into your web browser and copy this link and paste in the search bar.

http://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/solutions?qid=208280684

Then download the tdsskiller.exe not the tdsskiller.zip (says execute next to it to download)

Once downloaded double click to install and run a scan This is a 100% free software and virus free..

Once the scan is complete please select cure from the menu.

Then click start and restart

Hope this helps and please rate thanks

Sir i have hp compaq cq40 laptop having win xp .it got effected by some virus . whenever i try to boot it it gives error in some blue screen nd stops processing without booting up windows

Try starting the laptop in SAFE MODE.

To do this turn it off and wait 20 seconds. Then press the power button to restart, and as it is starting up press F8 every second or so until you get a screen that offers options - one of these options is to start in SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING. Select this option and the laptop will start up Windows in SAFE MODE. The screen will display in low resolution (Large icons etc.)

From here you have the ability to run anti-virus software and diagnose problems. If you don't have anti-virus then try downloading MalwareBytes (google it) and run that - it is a free virus and malware detector.

If your machine will not start in safe mode you may have a hardware problem.

Black screen

You need to start the computer on safe mode by starting the computer and at the same time clicking on F8 few times to stop it from starting window and go to safe mode....when you go to safe mode use the last known configuration and see if that get you back to your start up menu. if not see if you can start safe mode as admin and use recovery mode that take you back to the last known and good start up or uninstall the software that she installed...if nothing works see if you have the recovery CD that you made when you got the Toshiba, let me know if that work and please remember to rate my service so I am able to continue provide quality service and improve on it with your help. God bless

Toshiba satellite laptop comes on and stays at windows xp page

If Safe Mode doesnt work then you may have to do a "repair" of your O/S. Place your Windows XP CD into the CD-Rom drive, reboot and once you see the options if you want to Install or Repair - choose Repair. This option will make repair to your O/S and for safe mode.
Once repair is complete do a complete Anti-Virus and Spyware scan of your Hard Drive. If you can boot into Safe Mode to run the ani-virus much better.

When i turn on my laptop, it will say there was a problem starting windows and then asks me to choose either safe mode, safe mode with networking, last know configuration, or start windows xp normally. ...

Good day.
Usually that problem occur when their was changes made in your laptop maybe settings, or defualt setting before the computer was restarted, that makes the windows react that way or maybe virus infect your laptop. Some problem can be solve in safe mode, but since safe mode cannot be fixed, I think you have to re-install the program, but you have to back-up first all your important files before you fixed it.
Thank you.
