Dryer won't start

I have a whirlpool Imperial series electric dryer (7 cycles, 4 temperatures). I put a load in to dry and when I pushed the start, I saw a brief flash. The dryer started and dried the load. My wife dried a second load. Now the dryer will not start. The light inside does not come on. I checked the circuit breaker and made sure the plug was securely in the wall. Any ideas??
