If you've dropped the camera you may have damaged the lens housing - which will require professional repair, but the problem you describe is frequently due to corroded battery contacts inside the camera. Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, clean the contacts at both ends of the batteries, and reinsert them in the camera.
