new water pump, ,
did old pump/engine overheat?????????
not getting gas I guess you meant only that the engine is dead?
or the starter motor is dead. not told evidence. all.
if engine good, gas is last
spark if first after engine good.
the PCM even cuts fuel if spark is detected dead.
so check for spark !
did you remove battery cables before this work.?
then put them back last?
we do that to prevent blowing up fuses or worse.
my guess (wild ESP) the engine cranks fast but will not start.
or stalls or runs 10 second and stall or never starts
and spark is dead.
You need to find out if the fuel pump is working, getting gas up to the engine. If the pump is working and seen to have good fuel pressure, check ignition by checking for spark.. To work, the engine needs, you know, gas, air, spark, and compression. Why people say, check for gas, check for spark.
Sounds like the ignition switch is getting hot.Check the ignition switch wires for any melted wires or hot spots. If any of the wires look burnt or melted replace switch.
It is possible that you have some water in your fuel. If so, it can freeze if the weather is cold enough and prevent fuel from getting to your engine. If you can somehow warm the car up a bit, you can put some methyl or even better isopropyl alcohol in the fuel and run it for a while. Note that if it IS ice, it will go away as soon as the weather warms up enough. But it is a good idea to run some methyl or isopropyl alcohol, even if you do get it started when the weather warms up, so it doesn't happen again. It is very unlikely to get water in your fuel at a gas station. It happens due to condensation in the gas tank if you don't fill it up every time you get gas. If you keep it fairly low all the time, it will take a lot of moisture from the air. The methyl or isopropyl alcohol will blend with the water and allow it to burn off.
98 chev pickup s10 put gas in the gas tank drove it about 2days and the check engen light came on had it check mech said it was the gas cap replace the gas cap the light back on now what help
1.) Change the fuel filter. 2.) remove all old gas (should actually drop the tank) 3.) run injector cleaner get kit to do this from fuel rail as this is probably cover in gunk
You may also have a screen or filter in the gas tank itself that can get clogged. Get rid of as much bad gas as possible. Like I said above it is recommended that you drop your gas tank but if you don't want to make sure to get all old gas out of tank and at the very least put a good amount of stabil in the tank fill with gas do the fuel rail injector cleaner they sell these kits at auto part stores. Hope for the best.
