I have a cable made of
- a 1/8" stereo plug (male) to stereo RCA (female)
- 6' stereo RCA cable (male/male)

Plug the 1/8" into the headphone jack of the laptop and the RCA end into the AUX on a stereo/amplifier...

That gives you one room anyway.

Try updating your DVD firmware (located at the support website from dell) and see if it fixes the problem. I believe, i-Tunes causes a conflict between your dvd rom drive. You can check it here at the microsoft website

Hope this helps.

Bad quality sound reproduction.

I would start by trying to replace the sound card driver - link.

If that doesn't work, it may be an issue with the speakers themselves.

Check the equalizer in Itunes to make sure you don't have it set to the highest values. This could be the reason why your speakers are playing the music with static.
Here is video that will help you access the equalizer:

Dell Inspiron 5150 not playing sound

Your speakers are frying, hence the crackling sound, as this is a frequent problem owing to the location of the speaker assemblies and the sound output in an area of the system where the ambient heat exhaust vents are located.

I am a bit confused, though, as to why you get no better sound through headphones or external speakers, since this is not usually the case in this frequently cited problem.

One possibility is that not only are the speakers, but the entire sound output assembly.

Warrantee work if available, if not try a shop where they also sell used Dell computers as they will have pulls that could cut your losses.

Dell Inspiron 1300, no sound.

it's something to do with it being the wrong driver in the right package, i've gathered. go to: and install that driver. it works perfectly.
