Having problems installing a Geforce fx5500 on my dell deminsion

sounds like yo had the same Problems that I had with my 5200 geforce The install did not go well. what was happening was the direct x was binding to the old mother board graphics system and not the new card . to make it rebind just change the refresh rate in the nvidia icon in your task bar . disable the display adapter from device manager for the motherboard graphics .put the card in the slot change the monitor cord boot up check you direct x by typing in run dxdiag and test directx to be sure it is running with your card you can also see that from the about nvidia you must have the driver for the card installed to do all this.. hope I helped  install the driver first then disable download latest drivers here

Graphic Problem

If your video card is only 8MB i don't believe that meets the minimum requirements.

So you might not be able to play this game with your current video card.

Operating System: Windows Vista, XP or 2000
CPU: 3.0 GHz P4, Dual Core 2.0 or AMD64X2 (or higher)
RAM: 1 GB for XP / 2GB for Vista
Disc Drive: DVD-ROM Drive
Hard Drive: At least 7.5 GB of free space
Video Card: Direct X 9 compatible (must be 256 MB or more with support for pixel shader 2.0)
Sound Card: Direct X9.0c compatible

Desktop upgrade

Asus is a Solid MotherBoard manufacturer of mother boards. If you are looking for an add-on graphics card (I'm assuming you want to do some gaming), You would want to upgrade the memory for that motherboard to at least 1GIG which can be found here.

Graphics cards wise, I wouldn't advise anything higher then a $100 card... As that motherboard only supports 4x AGP (The type of connection your video card would use) and to get more for what you pay for, you really need a motherboard with an 8x AGP slot to get 100% of what you pay for. A Radeon 9950 at around $92 is the most you would want to put into a system that currently has a p4 2.66 ghz.

Graphics card locks up after 1-2 mins of running a game

Sounds more like a over heating or RAM problem. Try pulling out and re-inserting the RAM. Make sure that the fans are running and clean.
If it doesnt lockup in safe mode, try upgrading the video drivers...

Ati Rage 128 Ultra Pro 32MB Crashed

My name is Todd and I'm with Dell's online outreach program.  Have you tried that system with a different monitor, or is that monitor working correctly on another system?   Just trying to confirm it's the video card and not the monitor itself.

Another step you can try is to go into the BIOS / System Setup of that GX 240 to see whether the problem is only happening as it tries to load the drivers.  I sort of doubt that it is from your description but you can test it pretty quickly by tapping the <F2> button when the Dell logo would first appear.  If the video is normal in the System Setup that would let you know if the basic video functions of the card are working correctly.

But to be honest it sounds like the video card is failing from your description.  I assume your system's service contract has expired?

If you would like more detailed help feel free to email us at  Please include my first name, Todd, in the subject line of the email and reference this issue so I can pull up information to try to help you.

Thank you,

Game graphical error

Wierd, I had this problem once, updating my driver simply fixed it. Do this: 1) Remove all nvidia products and drivers from your computer. 2) Reboot computer of course. 3) Go to Nvidi'as website and download the correct latest driver for your graphics card. 4) Reboot again. 5) Go test the game.
